I was wondering if someone could help me please, I have a Finerfilters 4 stage 75gpd compact rodi unit with a second ro membrane in parallel with a booster pump putting out 80 psi. I am burning through di resin at an alarming rate literally only did 72l last week and switched all the taps on the unit off so I could store it wet until I need it again, generally a week later. I switched it on today to make some water and I had 0tds after flushing only to come back a while later to find it was at 1tds, I also noticed that half the di resin has turned black instead of the brown it should be, I have replaced the di resin 3 times in a month and was wondering if there is something wrong or anything I can add to it that may help.

also in case anyone needs to know
TDS from tap 382ppm

This is just a shot... Is your pressure at optimum? I'm thinking if it starts at zero and creeps up... It may be a flow rate issue. Perhaps adjusting the flow rate down a bit would help. As for your resin going quickly, it almost seems as if something from the waste water isnt going out the waste line.

I did ring the company up and email them about the flow restrictor and they said the one I had was fine but in the email the said that I needed to upgrade it so wasn’t sure what I should do. I have also triple checked all the pipes and everything is as it should be, also I have checked the ro membranes and they are all in properly and tight

Uggh. I don't have anything else without being able to see everything and touch it. I'm sure you've spent plenty of money on this unit already. The resin definitely should not be used up as quickly as it is. I wish you the best... And I think the company should do more for you to get this right. Good luck from the USA!

I see you have a TDS monitor hooked up. What points in the system does it monitor?

Do you purge your initial RO permeate water down the drain or send it straight to the DI housings?

Also not to knock your unit, but a standard 10 inch housing with DI would last you longer. I'm not sure of the capacity of those smaller proprietary units, but I would imagine they are significantly less then 10 inch cartridges.

Something is wrong for sure, my input water is like 350 tds, so close to yours.
I have above average water pressure and no booster pump and run 10 micron>carbon>catalytic carbon>ro>di.
I make enough for top off on a 180 and 20 gallons a week for water changes and my di lasts 4 to 6 months it seems if I recall.

I read a post about well water source water containing co2 or gas or somthing like that eating up di resin, somthing to look into maybe if you're on a well.

I’ve got similar TDS and get 60litres DI without going through the RO (yes, I’ve tried it) Can’t see what’s going on with your rats nest. Suggest you pull it apart and re plumb, logically. Check TDS after RO, first.

Needed it to be mobile as no where to keep it when not using it

It looks like that as I have pulled it apart loads to triple check everything also it doesn’t have to look pretty just got to work

Hi I purge the system for 45 mins down the drain and I have moved the tds meter 3 time to check everything, I had it after the pre filters just after the pump to check mains water tds and now have it after ro
