RODI/Tap

What’s the long term effects of not using RODI water?
If u want to succeed in this hobby, it is a must to have RODI water. The long term effects equals failure. All of the other answers are nothing more than chatter. Enough said. It's your choice to succeed or fail.:)

Lol, I was waiting for that one. You use any carbon or resins?
Carbon u rinse once a month my ema

would hate if I did fail and my tank did crash...I pray to the fish gods But I do have about 5-6 grand worth of coral that I’ve had for 5 years well most of them anyway so for a newb in this hobby I think I’m doing ok if you ask me...it’s not one of those insane tanks you guys may have but it’s definitely nice imo ....my levels are fine and I haven’t done a water change in about a year so it goes to show you don’t need to have insane money to be in this hobby so when my tank fails as you say I’ll let you know

These threads are pointless. When we talk about RODI water everyone is talking about the same stuff.
But everyones tap water is different. Some is great and some is really bad.
So someone posting I run my tank on tap water and it's doing great will mean nothing to what will happen in your tank.

i said that on first post of this thread lol

I admit I no longer read them. I post this and leave. I also admit I ran my tanks on tap water for a long time.
It works fine for a while, about 3-4 years and then the tank just goes down hill. That's if you have very good tap water.

I really don't understand why people keep insisting on trying to justify not using RO/DI water in this hobby.
The source water is one of the most (if not THE most) important part of having a successful tank. It is also one of the cheapest part of the hobby so why are we still arguing about this?

Whoa buddy, WE are not arguing. I’m a newbie. I’m just trying to get insight. Relax

Thanks, I’m going to get one soon. I’m just not sure whether to get the 4 or 5step, or what brand to get. Idk if brand matters when it comes to RODI

I ran freshwater tanks for many many years on tap and they did fine. I thought I knew what I was doing. My marine tanks would do fine for a while. I never figured it out until I got here 11 years later.

I don't think it does really. Look at BRS at the 4 stage system. I prefer that type of cannister.
If you drink the water where you live and it is okay then a 4 stage is fine. If not you might look into a water report for where you live and ask about it.

If or when you get a rodi unit and if you get a booster pump which majority of people will need/ or will greatly help then ive read that the pump needs a little brief rest after 3 hours of continous use.
And as for plumbing dont be scared its very easy especially if using pushfit fittings or even compression fittings.but if little aprenhisive pushfit is just literally push copper pipe in and then hold fitting in one hand and screw nut on fitting with other hand .just need buy a pipe slice to cut copper pipe, you can use a hacksaw if needed but not ideal but will have to make sure no sharp edges after cut and sometimes cant get a hacksaw into space.just remember turn water off first ha ha
Or can use compression fitting which is basically metal fitting with an olive and nut and use 2 pump pliers or 2 spanners to tighten on.
Im a plumber but i actually bought a 4 stage rodi unit all canisters, cut off switches, pumps blah blah all fitted.just seemed easier than buying all the parts and doing it myself and £ 183 got 4 stage rodi with filter cartridges, membrane and di resin plus spare of each and tds meter.then just attached to cold mains using pushfit fittings and connected to waste pipe using fitting supplied aw and fitted tds meter as want to know tds is 0.
Pressure gauge is optional extra can install and can indicate when filter cartridges need changing out.
Or as someone mentioned can get an attachmemt that fixes onto a faucet if dont mind using all the rodi unit to and from sink etc.
Amd if ever staore used cartridges/ membranes they say to store them in an airtiggt zip tie bag with water in it.
Abyway good luck ^_^

I Live in apartments and ill i do is use an adapter on my sink pull my rodi system out from the cabinet make enough water for the week or 2 and put it away very easy
I have a pull out hose in my kitchen, which means I have to use the bathroom faucet and which also means I have to find a female adapter to go in my faucet

Do you cook with it? Make ice with it? Does it leave funny rings in the toilet? Turn your bathroom fixture funny colors?
Rot and corrode your faucets? Smell like anything but chlorine? Make girls hair turn funny colors?

In the end you have to decide what you need. Extra carbon blocks. Extra DI cannisters. Split bed instead of mixed bed?

4 Stage Value RO/DI Systems - Perfect for city water that is treated with low amounts of chlorine, or well water with very minimal contaminants. Four stage RODI systems are a great solution if you only connect your RODI system temporarily or have little space to dedicate to storing a RODI system.
  • Stage one: Purtrex 5 Micron Sediment Filter
  • Stage two: BRS Chlorine VOC 5 Micron Carbon Block
  • Last stage: DI Resin
5 Stage Premium RO/DI Systems - Our most popular systems handle common impurities found in well water along with most types of city water treated with chlorine including small amounts of chloramines.
  • Stage One - Purtrex 5 Micron Sediment Filter
  • Stage Two - MATRIKX CTO 5 Micron Carbon Block
  • Stage Three - MATRIKX CTO 1 Micron Carbon Block
  • Last Stage - DI Resin
4 stage plus 2nd carbon block

6 Stage Deluxe RO/DI Systems - If you are not sure what is in your water, or it contains excessive amounts of TDS or hard to remove contaminants like chloramines, phosphates, nitrates, silicates, etc. The BRS 6 Stage systems are designed to effectively treat any water your home may have prior to using it in your aquarium. The Dual DI stage helps with the hard to remove ions like ammonia, phosphates, silicates, etc.
  • Stage one: GE ROSave.Z 1 Micron Depth Filter
  • Stage two: BRS Universal 1 Micron Carbon Block
  • Stage three: BRS Universal 1 Micron Carbon Block
  • Last stages - DI Resin cartridges
5 stage plus 2nd DI canister

7 Stage Pro RO/DI Systems - Perfect for almost any water condition, but if you have contaminants that use excessive amounts of DI resin, the 7 Stage RODI system is the ideal choice. It uses cation and anion single bed resins that give you added control and cost savings over traditionally used mixed bed resins. Most water supplies tend to exhaust either the positively or negatively charged resin more quickly than the other, and by separating the standard mixed bed resin into single beds, you are no longer throwing away good deionization resin.
  • GE ROSave.Z 1 Micron Depth Filter
  • Dual BRS Universal 1 Micron Carbon Block Filter
  • Pro Series Cation Deionization Resin
  • Pro Series Anion Deionization Resin
  • Pro Series Mixed Bed Cation Deionization Resin
5 stage plus split bed resin

A 4 stage can be upgraded with addons until it is a 7 stage
