Hi all I'm new to all this and just starting to produce RO water.
After flushing my first 60 litre is at 007ppm good enough for a new setup?
How can I get it lower if not?

My first drum of RO water using a TDS meter says the TDS is 007.
Just wondering if I can get it any better or if that is good enough?
This is for a first tank setup

Thats strange.

If your filter has 4 stages sediment, carbon, RO membrane and then a mixed DI resin, then zero is normal. Is this a new filter? If so are you sure it's assembled corrrectly?

What is the tds of the water you are feeding in?

My tap water is around 90ppm and after the RO mebrane I get around 3ppm, and the resin brings that down to zero.

Water pressure is important too, low water pressure makes things not work as efficiently.

If your incoming water has a high tds it's possible to still not filter it all. I would check your tds after the carbon block but before the ro membrane, then after the ro membrane and see what you are reading.

Your ro membrane should remove 98% of your tds. Then the di resin is supposed to finish it up. But if it's very high coming out of the ro membrane or not working correctly it may not.

For example, my incoming tds is 100, coming out of ro membrane at 2. Di resin finishing it up to 0. Which is where you want to be.

If everything appears to be working correctly and you just have a really high incoming tds, then an additional di stage should get you to zero.

Oh, also, remember to flush it, but don't take a reading immediately after starting it. Give it about 15 minutes and read it.

It typically comes out a little high at first but quickly goes down.

Measure TDS of the final effluent straight from the tubing, collected in a very clean container. A big barrel is easily contaminated.

Are you measuring with a tds pen? If so did you calibrate it? If not what are you using that measures in ppm and not tds?
So it would appear that the pen I bought may not have a calibration pot as it only cost $15. It would appear my store has stocked cheap crap. So will have to invest in one I can calibrate.

Get a inline one from brs like this.

Make sure you read/watch how to install properly, how to place prongs.


Should have told you that you might want to consider a 3 probe one.

One before ro, one after ro, and one after di.

So you can see how each stage is doing.
