Romaine lettuce and tangs

No, Ive never soaked mine in garlic. What would be the reason to do it?

You could try Seaweed Select, I think that would absorb garlic. It helps ward off parasites like ich. Also is an appetite stimulant from my understanding.

It wood be great if the garlic wood get in to the leaf a lot easer than seaweed .I put in a romaine leaf and it last all day and nothing breaks of in the tank

My Tangs don't let anything float when its feeding time, the demolish it.

If you do some research you will find its not a good idea to feed this to them even
though the destroy it.

If you saw my Tangs, and how long I've had them, and all the rest of the stuff I give them....

What is some of the other stuff you give them ? Are the noire sheets as brittle as the seaweed ?

I feed Mysis, Plankton, Spinach, Squid, Nori Sheets, shrimp. Romaine and spinach tend to stay in the veggie clip better than anything else.

Romaine provides nothing beneficial towards fish. There's barely any nutrients in romaine compared to spinach, kale, bok choy, collard greens, and even broccoli(but it has to be blanched so it's easier to digest). And even the old fashioned sushi roll :D NORI!!

+1 on fishes2889. lettuce? maybe in 1976... go to your local asian grocery (or even walmart has a decent brand) and get NORI (its WAY cheaper than lettuce and WAY better for your fish)... make sure there is nothing added to it and that it's just 100% dried (some say toasted) nori... it's more close to what fish eat AND it absorbs many liquids.. I use it to add Zoecon to my fishes diet. I would imagine you could do same w/ garlic (though there is a recent article out there about garlic and how, aside from encouraging a stubborn fish to eat, it really has no benefit.

Plus one on the Nori. Here is a link to an article listing the protein to phosphate ratio of many commonly fed foods including most of those mentioned. One thing people should remember with tangs is that they need lots of roughage to stay healthy long term. One should keep this in mind when choosing food. It goes beyond the simple nutritional value of the food. While i would agree there is very little nutritional value in romaine lettuce, the roughage and fibre in the leaf may make it worthwhile to feed. I don't feed it myself, Nori and broccolli work for my pack of ten year old tangs but i wouldn't rule it out just based on nutritional value alone. Perhaps the phosphate to protein ratio of the food would be a more valid criteria to consider.

Regarding the myth that garlic does anything good for your fish, I have read several studies that indicate that garlic actually harms fish. Liver damage I believe was the issue. Garlic does not contribute to the healing of fish nor does it cure ich. People who beleive that are liable to hold off treatment hoping the garlic will help. As they wait to actually take action, their fish loose so much strength that treatment is not possible. Over the years i have seen many fish die of ich in spite of garlic supplements. I have also seen many recover with out garlic supplements. The two are not related no matter how much we may wish it to be so.

Here is a video of my tangs having their normal breakfast.

Wow you have every thing in your tank they tell you not to put in a reef how big is your tank? nice I like it I only have a 125g

Just remember romain lettuce has NO nutritional value for fish...

But nori from Asian market like 50 12"x12" sheets for $8 tangs love it. Just make sure that you also feed meaty foods with vitamins at least once a weeks. Add a couple drops of garlic to algae and frozen meaty food mix.
