Romaine lettuce and tangs

It's fine to feed the "better" leaf lettuces such as romaine. What you'll want to stay away from, though, is head lettuce (Iceberg) which is pretty much just fiber. A leafy green that many folks don't consider is bok choy (it was nice to see it brought up earlier in this thread). It is nutritionally superior to romaine across the board, but you have to pay for the stems which fish don't eat. Either way, you may want to consider this option. Also, it's often suggested that terrestrial greens should be blanched (very briefly microwaved or boiled) to break down the tough cellulose they contain because fish never encounter it in the wild.

All that said, I would still recommend incorporating marine algae as a staple for a tang's diet, with proper terrestrial greens as a supplement.
