Rookie Chemitry HELP!

So in my case...since I'm looking to raise my Dkh...and not calcium...would focusing on just DKh (for dosing) be thr plan...and use a product like Red Sea that has a good starter kit with CA, mg, and alk suffice?

That video was great! But BRS was obv talking about their product...which we don't have in Canada (wah wah wah)
Sure, there is nothing wrong with the red sea stuff. Kalk is just easier imo once everything is stable.

Yaaaa I'm always wary of people taking brs advice as the gold standard, they are just trying to sell you something....

I’m in Canada so I can’t even get it without paying with my first borns soul.

I’m not sure how big his tank is or if he’s using a doser etc, I manually dose and my alk usage is much higher compared to what I need to dose for calk (assuming my wcs make up for the difference currently) so to use limewater would most likely throw my tank off balance. Just my personal experience.

i personally would prefer to just use kalk, but there’s more to using it then just mixing a batch and saying it’ll sort out his dosing.
All reef tanks eat up more alk than cal. The kalk will still work.

Wait, you guys don't have food canning supplies in canada???

Agreed, just an easy video to explain how to dose.

Ok so test all elements first. Buy this Red Sea product which gives me Ca, Mg, and Alk supplements. If everything else is normal except my dkh (alkalinity) dose (no more than 1 dkh) and test. Wait a few days and test again? That BRS Video says wait 2 days and then divide by 2 to get my daily dose. Or just read and follow Red Sea directions?

I use Kent salt. Should I stick to their dkH product? Or I guess it doesn't matter?

Lol teach me this dang 2 part. I'm not about to add lime juice to my aquarium right now, or whatever that canning stuff is lol LOL

I’d start with 2 part and research kalk if that interests you.. either way you’ll need 2 part to correct any imbalances once you’re using kalk. And kalk maxes out eventually to the amount you can add in a day if you’re tank is insane.

kalkwasser makes limewater it’s not really lime haha

Fwiw many of our expensive reefing products are chemically identical to pesticides, pool cleaning supplies, cooking supplies, and yes, food canning supplies. They have just been rebranded and had the price upped by 500%.

Anyways 2 part is great too.im with you, very visual. No calculators for me. I'd just go by feel. Add the recommended amount of alk supplement. Test the next day, see where your at and go from there

I do 20% bi-weekly. Mayne change to 10% weekly? You think that'd help? This is why I purposefully don't have SPS LOL

How bigs your tank? Sounds like you go through like a dkh over the 2 weeks, if I had to guess you’ll probably just need to add like .2 worth of alk a day..just guessing but what I’ve read tho don’t trust me on that lol

65G. I'm gonna test my DKH in the morning again. I was really looking forward to watching TV in bed after work, but, you know how this hobby catches you by the throat sometimes lol...a level seems low "sound the alarm"
