Round or long wave makers??

My favorite pumps for the majority of tanks are the Ecotech. They are very easy to clean and very quiet when properly maintained. They also have use friendly controllers as well as Wi-Fi app connection.

I would prefer maxspect or Icecap over RedSea for longer dual rotor wavemakers. In my experience the Red Sea tend to gum up more quickly and require more frequent cleaning than the other two brands.

I don’t have much experience with Tunze, or Sicce, but I haven’t heard much in the way of negative reviews for those brands. Again, it’s going to depend on your tank size and dimensions, as well as what corals you plan on keeping.

I have 1 cp 150 on one end and a scp 180 on the other end both facing each other .
im thinking of adding a few of the round style wave makers

I know they are expensive but I use the Ecotech Mp40s and Mp10s in my tank. Being able to remove and clean the pump without dealing with cords is well worth the price.
I don’t mind the cords. Lol. I have Nero 5s on a parent child anti sync pulse mode up to 75% intensity so like 1k-2.5k gph Pushes a lot for my size system redsea xl 300.

425 gallons? What are the actual dimensions? As others have said, the goal of wavemakers/powerheads is to maintain proper flow for the corals you keep and prevent/minimize the amount of dead spots. As you add coral (which sometimes is attached to rock meaning your scape will change too), you may need to adjust or supplement your pumps.
For a large tank (425 gallons), you might want to check out that forum and see what others use. As was mentioned, glass thickness may limit what you can use. If it's 425 liters(or about 100 gallons), you have more options.

You have around 1k of equipment there!!
You guys over in us got it lucky as for 2 mp40 and 2 mp10 that's £ 1250.00 = roughly £1700.00 .
I see on here people saying get hanna checkers there the best then state $40-$50 each, ours are £65-£80 =$80-$95 so like nearly double but guess more people in us so bigger market and more reefers so more sales, but anyway I'm happy with my 2 all pond solutions reef surge 8000 which I believe are just re- branded jabeo's ,with controller laid out little different but powerhead same atyle same shapeand do job for me and to op I have mine on random pulse mode so go on and off and at different speeds as from my research corals prefer random flow so reason I do this and got 2 powerheads facing each other and small powrrhead at back of larger rockscape also.
My 2 main powerheads are £60 each and got a small none controllable one at £15 so all 3 Cost £135 and 2 x mp40 = £700 so can buy all 3 my powerheads nearly 6 times so I'm If they break down 6 times and need replacing I'm good with that ,but just over year in and all good so far and I see problems with some " higher end " wavemakers but until vortech give 5 year warranty no way I'm spending that much on them ha ha
My partner called tight Yorkshire man but I say wise ^_^

One thing I noticed is that the mp40 jumps out quite a bit from the aquarium and my aquarium has the left side touching the wall so I think its gonna be a problem for me as its around 2 inches the bulkead

For the RedSea 425, I usually go with two Icecap 2k gyre wavemakers or 2 of the Reefwave25’s. Alternatively, 2 MP10’s will do well

I've got x2 mp10s on my 425xl. I've come across this thread as i'm searching for upgrades!

Mine struggle to stay stuck on the glass when it goes on 100% or the nutrient transport mode.

Keeping them on the random flow 100% is still leaving me with dead spots so I need something with a bit more power.

I've only got a few lps frags in the tank so I know when I get more coral & these grow out i'll need something more.

I was actually looking to see if people have the mp10s with mp40s on a tank our size. I can't see me selling them for much & I don't have the box so was going to play about with their positions.
