I understand the Ultra Reef skimmers are NOT ozone safe and want to run about 1 hours worth a day through it...is this a wise choice and will it damage the skimmer ??
I want to get the Poseidon 200

Yes, running the Poseidon on non-UV safe polymers will eventually degrade it. I couldn't say how much for an hour a day (or if you'd get a lot of benefit from running ozone just an hour every day).

Got it. I have very limited room for a reactor so I need to find a very small nano skimmer to run the ozone through.

Need to check. I want to keep the ultra reef and run a cheap nano as a reactor for ozone.

So I specifically asked Ultra Reef about this on one of their facebook pages...

They do not rate the skimmers as "Ozone Safe" because of the wide differences in potential ozone concentrations used. (Basically a liability for them from the sounds of it). However, the PVC, acrylic and tubing used (the main parts of the skimmer) are ozone safe. We also use ozone in low concentrations. I'll let you form your own opinion, but I have run ozone through mine with no ill effects. These skimmers are built like tanks and I think you would probably want a new skimmer before ozone ever did anything to it.

Awesome info. Thanks a lot. I plan on buying the ozone machine very soon and this helps.
I wonder if the pump components are ozone safe ?

That I didn't specifically take the time to look up. I always kind of figured if they weren't then everyone running ozone through their skimmer would be complaining of cracked and deteriorating pumps. Plus the Ultra Reef skimmers use Sicce pumps which have a long track record of reliability.

For what it's worth, the only thing I have heard on these forums specifically being damaged by Ozone is nylon and other incompatible soft tubing components - these can easily be searched by looking up an ozone compatibility chart. I think a lot of the risks purported on these forums are based off theoretical incompatibilities rather than practical experience in a saltwater aquarium. My hypothesis is this is probably due to the high levels of organics in the water and the small amounts of ozone recommended for use in this hobby.

The main reference for information on the subject is RHF's articles from 2006 on reefkeeping.com. That was almost 20 years ago. I imagine if ozone was actually as dangerous & damaging as that article leads one to believe, no one would be using it all by this point. Or at the least, we would have more very specific accounts of damage caused by using it and land mines to avoid. Particularly with the way information in this hobby gets parroted.

If you do a thread title search on Reef2Reef for "Ozone Damage" no results are found. Perhaps the accounts of equipment damage are out there, but I haven't been able to find them.

Disclaimer: Not trying to discredit RHF or his knowledge, contributions, etc.; he's been incredibly helpful to me personally and the hobby as a whole. Just saying that 2006 was a long time ago and there has been a lot of information and first-hand experience added to the hobby since then.

Again, I encourage you to do your own research and form your own conclusions, I'm just sharing my conclusions after researching the subject myself.

Are still currently running ozone ? if so how long per day and do you use a orp meter ?

A couple of hours a week is suffucient to break down the yellowing pigments ime.
Ozone and gac complement each other.

i use something like this, which generates ozone with uv. The air input does not need to be dried, unlike some other generation technologiies.
Ultra Prue 1106523 UltraPure Spa Ozone Generator with AMP Cord https://a.co/d/bFHTS9R

Does this work for ya ? I assume your just drawings air out of the ozone machine via the skimmer ? and is it just as good as the Poseidon 200 ?

I 5hink with the poseidon you need a dryer on the air in. The 1 i linked is just a light box, the skimmer pulls the air thru.

Yup. Is the one you sent a link to, the uv style effective ?

Yes i use the 30 mg per hour model
Ok, so i found it for sale but one question, how do you dose it and gauge to ozone input to the tank...just run it for an hour a day ?
