This tank came with these drains, what are the thoughts on running like this vs doing a Herbie style with full siphon and an emergency drain? The pipes are 1 1/2" and the return pump is a dart.

:gossip: It is. I got the entire system he was running minus the frag tank and rock. He had the tank set up with closed loop but the barracuda pump was shot so I am going to try to move the water with in tank pumps. I figure I can always add the closed loop back if I need the extra flow down the road

I have these plus a 55 gal glass sump I can use. I just need to wrap my brain around how I am going to plumb this. Part of me says just put a sump or 2 under the stand, the rest of me says to plumb it out to the garage. I just worry about the heat in the Garage on the 110 deg. days we can get here.

Cool, can't wait to see what you do with it! Nice tank for sure! Unless you have a good chiller, I wouldn't put it in the garage. Our summers are like yours, maybe a little worse.

Thanks! I fear you are right... but it would really be nice to have the noise, mess, and extra water volume in the garage. Buying/running a much larger chiller to have these things...

If I go under stand I have about 40 gallons of extra water here.

I could squeeze another 29 Gal,or a 40 gal I have in there also, but that would put a 90 right off the return to get the dart to hook up.

Wow loving this!

This is the stand I will be using. I beefed it up and restored it. I will build a canopy for it that extends down 12" on each side to cover the gap.

Following along...

Thanks. I hope to get the tank moved over to the stand this weekend, then I can start plumbing it:xd:

I have decided to keep everything under the stand for now. I have a 40B set up in the garage and will monitor that with the chiller this summer before I commit to expanding the system out there.

Let just say... that was heavy.

Holiday weekend so may not get a lot done but here is tank on the new stand.

Lots of progress...

Plumbing is finished. Please disregard the dangerous-looking electrical box hanging near the sump... It is not plugged in and has since been removed.

Did a tap water leak test. Had a small leak at the pump outlet. I didn't see it until I had drained the tank so I pulled the pump and replaced the teflon tape with plumbers putty. I hope this fixed it.

Water test went well, I got the drains dialed in but I think I will be changing them to pull from the top of the overflow. Power off is dumping the entire overflow and the sump wasn't able to handle it.

I also moved the returns closer to the surface for the same reason. I still need to check the sump capacity after these mods.

This is the first and hopefully final interior design. It is not exactly what I wanted, but having built many other tanks, it never is...

The RO fill is started.
