Well as much as I brought everything and tryed everything this week unfortunately I lost everything sort from one star fish my eel and one clown . But I lost all my anemones my fue mantue , both angels , 3 clowns .

So today I decided to take the remaining fish to the aquarium as I had to empty the tank

So if any one needs anything I have around £8000 worth of equipment including 8 25l drums 4 10l drums . And 200kg or red sea salt .

What happened?
Trust me weve all been there. Eventually its more rewarding than losing everyrhing on your first go around.
Sounds like you started with too many fish to begin with though.
One sick fish will wipe out a tank if you arent prepared to treat it.

So what happened? Can you tell us all about your set up and experience? Maybe we can figure out what went wrong and get your tank going again?

And welcome to R2R!

So I started off around in march I brought a red sea max 130 then set it all up with all the rock and water kept it running . Then every week doing regular water changes and doing 2 full test on old water and the water after the water change . After around 2 months the aquatic shop agreed that everything is ok . So I brought 3 peppermint shrimp for the control of Aiptasia then every time I done the weekly water change of have my water tested . After a while it was good enough for fish so I added a banded moray .
Everything was perfect water quality was good and everything was health then I added a fue weeks later 2 clown and over time added fish then I added a bubble anemone . Witch was amazing the clowns them hosted and amazing the paired clowns mated. Witch other fish ate the small fry . Then just over 2 week ago I added a fue mantue. then this week just gone everything just died one after another . And all that was left was the banded moray , clown and regal tang . Starfish was fine and 2 peppermint ship all at the shop being looked after . Now I'm left with a lifeless tank

Ok lets see. Was all of your equipment brand new? What kinds of chemicals and additives were you adding? Did you make any changes the week things went downhill? Is the tank on a gfci outlet? Did any of the fish dissappear? How did they die? Instant death? Heavy breathing? White spots? Ect?

So all equipment is new . The lights are X2 red sea max 90 .
Wave maker is a red sea reefer45 . Filter is a clarisea 5000 . med bubble Magus skimmer . Dnd heating and cooling system running a 900 titanium . Secondary small manual controled heater . Aquag glow Lazer top up system . Tank was a custom 450l open top that I added the red sea mesh cover . The anemone just seamed to wilt ie looked lifeless . And started falling appart . The fish that randomly went missing was my small porcupine puffer then one small male Black clown . The moray was heavy breathing but after some research that was normal for them. Only chemical that was added was a non copper white spot treatment. Then we had around a month with no deaths after the vanishing puffer then like today looking at the tank within a space of no longer then 10 mins another clown fish just randomly died . And what do you mean GFCI outlet

What caused the anemone deaths? I know if they are chewed up by a powerhead etc.. that they can “nuke the tank” essentially
Tbh with the anemone I done know I had 2 one was a large around say a 8" -10" around with and blue spotted looking bubble and the other was a green sparkly bubble anemone the large white one was never happy from the get go and was never really happy or settled and the secom smaller green bubble was fine I saw the clowns feeding it with small krill or mysis and I would once a week try to direct feed with a small.amoimt of king prawn that was off the food for moray . And then we'll kind it turned into paper mashay. Or just a slimy mess .

So sorry for your losses , I know it’s heartbreaking :(
Thank you what I found hardest was that due to me running my own landscape business and fencing contacting company I found that it was a stress relief like we all do but due to covid19y work and company has dramatically sufferd and with everything it feels worse because they died and I do feel so guilty as they have died as j haven't had the correct time to look after them

I’m sorry correct me if I’m wrong because I’ve only been in the hobby for a month, but don’t eels eat any fish it can fit in his mouth, and a porcupine puffer will eat inverts, Sounds like a very incompatible stocking list, guessing your eel ate the tiny puffer, maybe that why he breathed hard bc aren’t they poisonous

The eelnwas only hand fed and he would only eat king prawns . You would se on a regular occasion peppermint shrimp walking over him or the clowns just swmkng around him . He never touched a single one and with regards the the puffer I would have guessed as the puffer was so small that his vanishing act would have most likel to been the anemone . As there is no brown fraamts or any waste of him

I'm guessing the eel was most likely the problem for the missing fish and anemones the general rule is 1 year for these did you use dry rock or live rock when you started the tank? if you used dry rock can be 12-18 months before you can host them

But what about when your not looking, like at night and the eel gets a bit peckish, looking for a midnight snack, just bc he acts all innocent in front of you, they technically aren’t reef safe

Yup. My snowflake wiped out 2 firefish and a starry blenny....the regurgitated bodies gave him up! Lol

The LFS made a lot of money off me there since i ended up surrendering it back to them. I just feel bad for the fish :(
Like dropping a seal in a shark tank :(

Eels are nocturnal predators and hunt when the lights are off maybe turn it into a predator tank lion fish and a eel

I used live rovk and live sand I had 100+ kg of live rock and 45kg of live sand this was in the larger tank

I do agree that the eel may have taken out some fish. When the nems started melting did you remove them right away? If not then they tainted the water and probably killed some critters too.

Gfci is the outlets typically found in bathrooms that have the buttons on them. They are a must have when using electronics and water together (like in a fish tank). You can also just buy a gfci protected power strip

I would just advise you to slow down, restart the tank and get all of your water parameters in check, and find another lfs. Do your own research and take it slow. 1st if I am correct we are talking about a 34g tank. I'm seeing a regal tang, a porcupine puffer, and a banded eel. I'm seeing peppermint shrimp not meant as food with a fu manchu and a banded eel. You need to start with appropriate fish for a 34g, and understand the care of each individual species. Anemones and fu manchu's take special care. Considering the lfs you went to thought your stocking choices were ok, 1st order of business is to find another lfs; and do your own research.
