Ok, Ok I have read the thread about not testing for magnesium, please don’t refer me to it. So today I used Saliferts NEW magnesium test kit. Instead of three reagents there are only two. No powder. I added the 5 drops of Mg-1 and swirled for 5 seconds. Liquid was clear. I added 80% of Mg-2 and dripped and swirled until all 1.0 was added. The liquid was clear. Anyone else have this happen or can identify what I’m doing wrong. I can’t seem to find a way to contact Salifert. Thanks.

Sure you’re not over 1500ppm Mg?
My last test a couple of weeks ago put me just over 1400. No change in dosing but I could of screwed up. Was yors clear and then changed colors?

I use Red Sea, and have only used that kit (2part) once at a friends house. From memory though it do go quick. Guessing less than 0.1ml for colour change. To rule it out just use 2ml instead of 1. Will at least confirm if you’re off-scale high or it’s something else.

Thanks, I’m going to stop dosing for a week or two and test again. If it’s still producing clear I’m going to pick up the Red Sea to compare it to. I was thinking I was doing something wrong or got a bad test kit.

Are the drops colored?

Just saw your photo. It’s clear after adding the 5 drops of part 1? If that’s case something is messed up.
Dropes should be blue, turning water Pink

Yes, clear after adding the 5 drops, I wish I could directly contact Salifert, seems shady that I can’t. I know their products are good but lacking in customer service.

I agree, that’s how it was with the older test, but again it used 3 reagents and the new only 2. So I didn’t know what to expect.

I have the new test kit so something is off

They are distributed by CoralVue. You can probably contact them for customer support.

I use the 2 reagent kit all the time. It should not be clear after the initial drops.

Yes after adding 5 drops of mg-1 it should be pink. Mg-1 drops should be blue

It sounds like you have a kit with an incorrect version of Mg-1 reagent. The drops should be blue.

The reagent turns the test blue when you hit the titration endpoint.

I'd return the kit as faulty.

edit: I accidentally said it should it should turn pink at endpoint - it should turn BLUE.
