Salt brands

I switched from the Fritz blue box to red because I was struggling with Alkalanity and pH. My pH is still low (even without skimming) but the alkalinity is much better (still not where I want it though :/)

I had switched from TM Pro to Red Sea blue bucket and results were good. A couple leaky/broken containers and it's time for a change. I've had my eye on Aqua Forest sea salt and the parameters are right where I want them. Plus I'm a fan of AF products so I ordered a couple buckets to give it a try. I haven't received it yet but I have high expectations.

I started with reef crystals, had nice reef for 2 years but hated the mess in the mixing buckets. Switched to tropic Marin reef pro because of all the hype about it mixing clear and fast. It did but my reef slowly declined. Then they had the issue with the dirty mixtures coming out of one of the plants. I went back to reef crystals, put a sediment filter in an ro container, hooked a pump to it and threw it in the bottom of my bucket. Saves a lot of money, the filter lasts about 3-4 months and my reef crystals mixes up clean now

I agree with @cjb428 on this one. I've tried plenty of mixes and always come back to Reef Crystals. As with every other warning in this hobby: stop changing stuff or do it in very slow increments if you really must. I hate the organics left over in Reef Crystals, but drop a Sicce pump in there connected to a 5 micron sediment filter and it will clear it up really fast. I'm too lazy to even do that now-a-days and just clean my mixing container once every 6 months.

I’ve pretty much have used instant ocean and reef crystals for the most part the last 50 years. Started with IO and then in 80 or 90’s started using reef crystals. I have tried other salts but always go back to RC and IO.
plenty of good salts out there, but for me the cost comes into play. I haven’t found a salt I think is worth paying double or more for a bucket. jMO

I've tried Red Sea Pro raised my Alk immediately way to high tips started burning on my Acro's. Switched back to Reef crystals ans have been fine ever since but have to dose alk to maintain 8.0-8-4 alk. the grudge in the container is harmless I have two 300 gallaon holding containers 1 fresh the other salt mix clean it out once every 6 months.

Popular opinion it seems, I normally use instant ocean or reef crystals because they are easy to find and cheap. I'm not picky though, if something else is cheaper I'll buy it.

I miss the oceanic blue buckets. Not because the salt was better, but because those buckets were the bees knees.
Ppl keep saying io or reef crystals, but isn’t reef crystals io?

I just switched from Brightwell Neo Marine that I have been using for years to AccuraSea salt. I chose the AccuraSea salt because it has similar parameters as the Neo Marine and it comes in 50 gallon bags. So no more scooping salt or cursing the lids on those Brightwell buckets.

What is the salt brand you are using?
Why are you using this specific brand?
Have you dropped any other brands for the current one and if yes then why did you do it?
Why in your opinion the brand you're using is better than others?
Have only used IORC. Been using it for 10 years now. I have never had much problems ( just dirty storage containers from time to time ) out of it. Never has killed anything and cost are the big reasons

I.O. Reef Crystals
It's less expensive, mixes super fast, and keeps all my inhabitants alive and happy.

I've tried lots of brands over the years and have liked Red Sea, Kents, Oceanic, IO Reef Crystals, IO and Fritz RPM. For over two decades I always went back to just IO. 2 or 3 years ago when they switched thier process their salt had bad clumping issues for quite along time, I swithched to Fritz then tried IO again and it still came in brick form and have been using Fritz now for a couple years and have been happy with it.
