I used RSCP for a year. Switched to Reef Crystals.
Here is a question for you all.
The Instant Ocean Reef Crystals (orange box) says "NO PHOSPHATES AND NO NITRATES" on the packaging label.
Does that mean Instant Ocean the (purple box) does have Phosphates and Nitrates and they just do not label it, because it would be bad for marketing?

What about all the other trace elements the salt brands should provide?

I don't know man. Just keeping it simple for now
But you are right though. They should label all factors. Especially for us nano tank keepers. I try to avoid phosphates and nitrates as much as possible having a higher risk of swings.

Those are the exact reason I have been using IO and it's done a great job. However I wonder if I could be missing something in regards to micro elements profiles with a "reef" salt. RC according to their description on the website says it includes more micro element vs IO for more demanding corals. This leads me to think that it's possible that a reef salt could give me more. That's why I'm trying AF Reef Salt now.

There's a fallacy in that saltmixes can provide all necessary elements needed in your tank, do to the limits the hobbyist can test for those elements. Even with constant daily water changes, which can be very expensive long term, uptake of these elements may be more or less in any given system. That's why so many experienced reef keepers dose elements and amino acids into their systems. Water changes can't keep up.

I'm googling it too. because when I started adding trace elements for my freshwater tank my fish started getting really dark in color (a good thing). So I'm wondering if a similar thing would happen for saltwater with coloration.

Balling method is where I plan to go with my system in the future to account for that. Fauna Marin makes a system that I can just add straight to my ALK/Cal/Mag solutions, I like that. I do about 20% weekly changes and my Alk/Cal demand isn't very high now but will increase quickly. Thoughts?

Used AF Component 1+ 2+ 3+ (liquid balling) for about six months.

I have to give AF an / A+ on that product. :D

I still don't understand how their balling works.... the Fauna Marin is added to my standard 2part. AF?

AF comes in three liquid pre-mixed liquids.
Part -1 = Cal & Mag / Part -2 = Alk / Part -3 = Continual Trace Elements.

It comes in a kit of 3 - 5 liter jugs.
