I know another salt question, but here goes. I currently use red sea regular for my reef. No complaints at all just ready to order more, and thought of trying something else on the new order. I tried the coral pro and reef crystals in the past but they mix a little high for me. I am shooting for natural parameters with my salt mix so nothing in the high range. I use IO for my QT and fish only as it is the best bang for the buck you can get. I thought about it for my reef, but it sometimes mixes up brown and I plan an automatic water change for my new tank build, and water will be stored for around a month when mixed. The red sea does well with this and loses very little elements while being stored. That is my end goal as the new tank is getting closer to being ready. Thanks

Instant ocean. every time I try a new salt I always go back to instant ocean. the brown residue isn't harmful to anything, it's just ugly.

I just started AquaForest and my tank looks very good with it.

I started with red sea coral pro and went to kent marine salt, i got the same results for half the price.

You really can't go wrong with any salt......the idea is to go with whatever mixes up closest to the numbers you try to keep. I used Reef Crystals for over a year and just recently switched to Red Sea Blue due to the lower ALK and no more of the brown residue coating everything (got tired of cleaning my salt containers, pump, and heater constantly).

I love IO but i hate the brown residue. I have noticed no ill effects from it but I really don't like it. I like the blue bucket red sea and noticed good results, but I went from 50/50 mix of reef crystal and red sea pro.

In addition to Aquaforest, Fritz seems to be recommended a lot right now. I think I'm going to spend the bucks and try either of them the next time I need salt.

Don't forget about Coral Sea salt from Kordon. The brand has been around since the early 70's, as long as Instant Ocean. It's probably the fastest dissolving, and most consistent salt available in the U.S. market.
