Spend and build to your next tank! Even if you never get one. I had no idea where I might go with the hobby so I purchased most of my equipment rated for a tank double the size I currently have. It just made sense that having the equipment necessary to upgrade for the minimal additional investment meant that if I do upgrade (WHICH I KNOW NOW I WILL) I wont be starting from scratch needing all new components.

SINGLE BEST INVESTMENT - GO ATO!!! I was constantly chasing my salinity and water because of evaporation. It wasn't fair to the inhabitants. I would water change to .024 it would evaporate even just a couple of gallons and it would rise .028 plus. The constant change isn't healthy. I added a TUNZE 3155 and it leveled right out. I cannot remember being off more than a fraction from .0254 since. (well unless I let the holding tank run dry)

How's the tank doing now?

After some years, I got rid of that ancient CPR-type overflow box. You know that kind run by the tiny powerlifter pumps. I took all my rock and livestock out and had the tank drilled and added a inside overflow box from holes.com. This essential modification has been fantastic.

Years ago I got ich from a frag. I had to take out all my surviving fish to treat in copper and leave the 75 gallon display fallow for 70-something days. All my fish have been doing great now.

I got aiptasia years back which I completely resolved by getting some berghai nudibranchs. Another problem that I had to fight was bryopsis which I have been able to maintain with tuxedo urchins and emerald crabs. These crabs are my new favorite thing to have in a Qt tank for this reason. Not only do I Qt fish, I also Qt all incoming coral frags and other inverts. My Qt tank has been converted into a toadstool dominant softie only tank which is void of any fish.
