Sand bed looks boring?

Sometimes I get tired of seeing a flat boring sandbed. When I start a new tank, I try to scape the sand into the rockwork, but of course, water has other plans. So what I will do when I get the itch to make things look different, I'll get a power head and blow the sand around into wavy mounds over a few days. I have yet to see any detrimental effects of this. I don't let too much blow around. The old top layer gets blown under and the under sand gets blown to the top, white as the day it was bought.


Does anyone else do something similar?

I don't know if you can see it well...the one side I need to show the sand bed better is covered in coralline splotches. It's the side with the mangrove roots. Over the next few days I'll let it build up some and then let the hermits, and conch kind of sort things out from there. The idea is to turn over the sand bed. I don't know if there's anything good about it. However, it certainly beats the hell out of getting rid of the old stuff and putting in the new sand. I ain't got time for that mess. lol:bigsmile:

I have tried this before but unless I change the flow pattern in the tank it all just gets pushed back to normal by the end of the week.

Mine takes about 3 weeks. In-between that it takes it's own form, which is nice.

I read about it, is this your tank? Kind of a shame that it was taken down for something else. I would've liked to see the growth and things took shape over those acrylic pieces. Meh.

No it's not mine I should've specified, I included the build thread. I love that tank.

No not yet. My diatom bloom has come back in full force as the tank is only a few months old. When it dies off I'll give it a go
