Sandbox's Dream Peninsula

Sorry for the long delay, things have been busy with work and life in general. I have received my lights! I choose the Orphek Atlantik V4 (Gen 2) and I'm super stoked about them. The tank is in position and still waiting on water. I've asked my father in law to run a outlet on the wall next to the tank since there isn't one currently and to run it as a dedicated circuit. Waiting on this to move forward. He hasn't been feeling well and is losing a lot of blood. The doctor's don't know where he is losing the blood from and has been through battery of tests. Prayers and good thoughts are welcomed =).

Once the tank is wet I plan on taking it nice and slow. I want to add all rock from the current tank and I also have a lot of used sand and "live"rock in buckets waiting for a home lol. What is the best way to proceed? I know there will be tons of die off if not everything dead. Can I rinse and clean of the sand/ rock and just add it to my existing rock? I'm not using the sand in my current. I plan on leaving the new tank fallow for 76 days to make sure I'm starting off fresh. Thank you for your time!

If you have old dead rock that was once live you can use it, but I would definitely start curing it. Perhaps you already are in the buckets. Maybe I misunderstood. I say go with new sand. Sand gets nasty. I am no sand expert though.

Hope your father in law is is okay.

Thank you very much! The rocks have been inside buckets with saltwater for about 5 months. I will def have to clean or cure them. I just hope by adding the rocks I have in the tank it will be a less of a cycle time, I'm not too sure. I won't be using the sand in the tank, but I have about 30 gallons of used sand in buckets in saltwater. It's in storage and cold. I'm pretty sure the bacteria died off, just hoping to save money by rinsing it off and reusing it. The fish will not be in the new tank for at least 76 days.

Happy New Years everyone! My father in law was well enough to put in a outlet with it's own dedicated circuit and this slow build is one step closer =) Things will be on hold for a bit. The gov't shutdown has left my husband and I without pay until it re-opens. Once we are back on track, I will get this baby running and post tons of pictures!

your tank is up and on the stand, boy am I jealous!
I have a feeling all those leveling feet will be the hardest part of the whole build.

looking good and following along!

Thank you so much. It was hard to get the leveling feet that are deeper under the stand. This tank is a beauty. Next, I’m going to do a leak test of the sump, plumb it and do a leak test of the overflow box. I’ve seen some WB tanks having issues. I can’t wait to get transfer all my fish and corals from the old tank :). It’s a slow process, but I’m having fun!

So it’s been a while since I last posted, but we were just plugging away during the shutdown and making it work. After the shutdown, my husband said I could get new sand and products to get my tank started! Today I rinsed the dry sand, started my DIY controller board, hung my Orphek and started filling the tank!!!

This will be an Aquaforest system!!

Let’s see that controller board !
I need to construct one as well...not sure how to do it.
Right now it’s just a piece of plywood I painted white. Gonna drill some holes and add grommets. Then I’m going to use industrial Velcro to attach it.

Nice!
Are you floating it out some?
I thought I’d Velcro the power supplies for all the things to the wall then have the board floating out away some to allow air flow and access if needed to the back. Still brainstorming

I put couple pieces of wood inside the tank and I will put Velcro on the board. There will be a gap on the top and side, enough for my fingers to fit if I need to take it off. Heck this might not even work, but I’m going to roll with it. Don’t mind the mess!

Thank you very much! I need to re hang the light because its not centered lol. It’s a slow build, but I’m loving it. :).
Slow and steady is the best way I say. I'm just setting up a bio cube my husband got for me. It took me 2 months to get it clean enough to where I would start a build thread ;Hilarious. I really like the peninsula style tanks. Wish I could have one but we don't have a spot for that style.
