I typically place 2-3 orders per month at BRS and usually pay for the upgraded shipping which is now $3.99. My last order I didn’t upgrade shipping and what I’ve found…. I think the only difference is when you pay extra, it ships the same day or next day and if you don’t, then they hang on to the order before shipping it? Anyone know if that is correct?

IIRC youre correct and I think they are transparent on that in the shipping option selections

I always choose free shipping and has always shipped same day (if order placed by a certain time) or next day

the extra $3.99 is not worth it. order i place Monday was shipped Tues and arrived tomorrow

Definitely not worth it to me. Arrives the same time frame either way.
