That's awesome man. A LFS near me has had their corals go down the tubes recently. This post makes me want to go see if I can do the same!
Try it!! Just say that you realize the coral is dying, and ask them what their bottom dollar would be if you wanted to take the RISK of taking it home and trying to rescue it. Just emphasize RISK when you ask

As long as it's LPS, just make sure your parameters are in check and do lots of spot feeding. Typically, in my experience at least, when an LPS rejects food, it no longer has the will to live and it will die. So, just keep that in mind.
