If anyone has this I’d really appreciate some feed back. If I bought this it would be only to use as a par meter. What has me wondering is at the price point is it even an accurate device? Just regular par meters go for twice as much. If it does work why are other par meters so freaking expensive. I’m tired of guessing what my light might be putting out.

I have one that I use strictly for par measurements. After seeing the comparison video by BRS, using it as a par meter only is a no brainer in my book :)

Ditto^^^^^

I just bought one strictly for par measurement use and I’m happy with it. Definitely takes the guesswork out of lighting your corals.

It’s worth noting they frequently run holiday sales and seneye is a sponser on R2R, so they’ll post sales here.

I just picked mine up on July 4 for 15% off, saved $30!

I’ll have to check out the BRS video. I was taking a long look at it but couldn’t help but think they must have skimped on something to sell it at 200 bucks when it does multiple other things other than par measurements. I seen another brand at a decent price I think bio tek or something similar to that but from what I understood it’s just an apogee sensor. So makes me wonder why the apogee units aren’t in the 1-200 dollar range.

Dang wish I would’ve seen that

It's this video I believe.

I own one and it's worth it.. THAT said I actually wish I'd have bought this:
https://www.apogeeinstruments.com/sq-520-full-spectrum-smart-quantum-sensor-usb/

Was a tough x-mas choice (black fri deals at BRS) since the 520 was below $300 (in my comfort zone for toys) I believe (not by much) but the Seneye was like $150
AND all "studies" showed it was adequate.
The other functions were just bells and whistles and ,frankly, don't really work as well as "I" would like.

Realistically there really isn't much difference in any of the "PAR" sensors for our uses...
Still the Apogee 50o's or Li-Cor is still the ultimate in precision.

I literally waited for years for the Apogee to upgrade their sensor (couldn't handle the red cut off) only to buy a Seneye..
go figure..

If money is no object.. get the Apogee esp. if all you want is PAR.
If you need something else from the Seneye, wait till black friday.. (no promises)
Can never have too few tools..

One trick pony's usually work best w/ that one trick..
Seneye is due for an upgrade..

JUST an opinion....

They did, you have to plug it up to a pc or laptop. Which isn’t a deal breaker for me, it’s not like I use it often enough to care. But it’s helpful when I do get new sps and finding a good placement for it. Or, when I decide to adjust my lighting or determine when my bulbs is really due for a change.

I just watched the video, and it seems to me that it is a no brainer to go with the seneye. I don’t care if it has to plugged into my laptop, I don’t need anything else from it since I have an apex. I appreciate the input from everyone.

Yeah I found it and it’s only $10 cheaper and less accurate according to BRS. I’ll be using in a 24x24 cube so no extreme angles

The seneye is fantastic for the price. The one caveat I will say is that it struggles when the light source isn’t close to directly above. So things like LED or near the edges of halide/T5 it will read too low.

S.Q 520 can't get any better, simple to use, rock solid par meter

It’s twice as much, I can’t justify the cost for something I’ll use so little, especially when the seneye tested as close as it did to the li cor. Even with the 520 out performing the seneye it would be by such a small margin that it wouldn’t matter. I’m saying this in reference to what I’ll be doing with it. In a bigger tank where you would want measurements further from the light source it would be worth it I suppose.

I just used my seneye today to adjust the mounting height of my new lights. Perfect for the application :)

Depends on your lights. I noticed a very large difference between readings near the edges of my tank between the seneye and the apogee 510. The seneye struggles with light from angles. But for a home reefer, the seneye is perfect.

That’s exactly what I was referring to.

I personally don't think so. A stand-alone PAR meter is only about $150 more. I would either go really cheap and get a $15 lux meter, which I have used with good success, or I'd go all-out and get a PAR meter.

Now if you want the other features of a Seneye, that's a different topic. But just as a PAR meter, I don't think it's worth it.

Just my $0.02.

So OP what did you go with? I m in the same boat thinking it would be nice tool to have not a must just nice..
I bought the seneye about two weeks ago. Marine Depot was running a sale on it for 179 and I had some leftover points with them I used so ended up getting it for like 150. Couldn’t pass it up at that price.
