I have a windows laptop so it was a no brainer for me to pick up the seneye. Before BRS tested it I had assumed it was junk, but after the only reason I can think of to not buy it for a light meter is if you didn't have a windows laptop. If they could make it plug into various phones it would be even better.
I can't speak to any work arounds for a mac, sorry, but for a light meter that you can also see the spectrum and PUR % plus monitor pH and other parameters if so desired I don't see why one would get anything else if you had a windows laptop that is. The cosine correction on the far edges isn't a problem for my tank, although I have played around with having one light on the far side, I just angled the seneye to the light. Wasn't hard, you don't need to keep it flat all the time.
