Got this frag and I’m pretty sure it’s a setosa. The top definitely looks like it but the yellow polyps are throwing me off.

Hmmm... my Setosa doesn't have any noticeable polyps like that.

I can see the polyps on yours but that’s the thing, usually they’re the same color as the coral itself.

I have a very large colony of setosa started from a frag and it indeed has polyps they are the same color as the coral. Maybe you have some different kind or time under lights and the color on the polyps will change.

I guess I never looked at that picture very close up...I do see some polyps now, lol. I can't see them with these naked eye... I'll have to look tomorrow in the light.

I appreciate all of the responses. While the coloration matches many of the replies, the growth pattern doesn’t. This is what has puzzled me.

Don't get distracted by what's going on in the top left of the frag. What makes it a cap is how it's growing on the bottom right. Setosa wont furl back up on the leading edge, it will solidly encrust like an acro.

IME neither will an unshaded encrusting monti. There's also a radial pattern working up the face of it, also not a Setosa or encruster kind of thing.

The upper left side of the frag that's throwing you for a loop is an nodule growth pattern common to some caps.

Nice frag of sunburst/starburst cap is what you have (+90% odds). Outside chance it is a Stellata (less than 5%),. Outside outside chance it is a funky Setosa (less than 1%)

Thanks. And you’re adding more fuel to the mystery. I was sold this as a $4 frag. I can’t wait to grow this out.

+1 on the Starburst Monti Cap , super cool growth on that one, it looks like it was stretching for the light . They are growers , make room when placing , think of a massive scrolled cap growth

On first glance, I thought setosa. After @stephj03's second post, my money (very very little of it) is on monti cap. A really nice one too!
