Setting up a 20 falling qt

If using meds beside Prazipro I wouldn't add rock as it absorbs it like mentioned above.
I was just going to add the rock at the beginning to help get bacteria established, and then pull the rock out and put it back in my sump before I put fish, or chemicals in it to keep from taking the chance disease getting in, and chemical leaching stuff out in my tank. Would this be ok?

It won't hurt. I do from time to time especially when I have a piece I want to knock aiptasia off.

No aiptasia (I have to look at that Everytime I spell it), but I do have some pineapple sponges I was hoping I might be able to get to transfer into the qt, while I'm soaking the filter in my refugium I will have this rock soaking in the qt and then pull out a couple days after I put the filter in the otb filter box

If you ever do need to do anything with rock, a plastic tub and a powerhead works great. I place a piece of eggcrate on top when working on rock so that water can drain back down without making a mess.

Good idea, is it a bad thing to break rock up after its already been established? I know I might end up losing some pods and stuff, but is it going to leach anything horrid back into my dt once the tools are put away?

I don't break it unless I need a smaller piece. Typically drilling a hole to run cpvc through or killing aiptasia. I do the cpvc as it helps make a tower structure sturdy and easy to disassemble if needed to. I don't think there is no harm in breaking rock as it's constantly getting worn down by Mother Nature.

I figured it would be alright but my wife swore I would end up killing everything so had to make sure she wasent right before I did it anyways . I have a couple bigger rocks that just look awkward now that I've arranged my tank a few times due to inhabitants so I thought about maybe chiseling them in half or sections.

Totally fine!

the rock on the right is the one I really want to reconstruct (luckily I didn't plaster the rocks in like I was going to). I may end up running cpvc rods threw like you are talking about tho. What size did you go with?

I thought about plastering/glueing then got to wondering what if I need to dismantle or want to change the look.

Noob question here but.....

Having a cycled sponge or QT tank?? If you are adding meds especially anti-bacterial meds dosen't that kill your cycle? I have never ran a QT tank so just asking.

Yes, that's why it's always good to have a few sponges seeding. Only thing you can do for meds that kill the good stuff is water changes, but anytime you change water unless removing a medication you need to make sure it is dosed properly to match what was taken out.

I was thinking quarter, did you do one solid pipe or did you put couplings in it so you could slip it out in sections if needed? Did you cement it to the rocks or just slip the rocks on I guess is the first question I should ask
1/2 inch cpvc.

That tower there has 5 different rocks, I have a few cliffs as well by going this route. Elbows could be used making arches.
That's a good idea for the archs. Ima have to do alot of drilling and planning when I upgrade I wanna use your PVC idea but cement the pipe in the rocks, and use elbows, couplings where the pipe lines up, aslong as I don't glue the fitting if I ever have to pull a section out I should be able to twist it and pull the fitting lose, and pull the rock out one at a time. (In theory atleast)

Well rushed it a little bit because I was going to run the qt for about a week before adding the tang but Petco helped persuade me with the fish sale going on lol. Anyways I filled the qt with 10 gallons Friday using water from my main tank, also put a ball of cheato in there while the filter is soaking in the sump, got the kole tang yesterday around 7pm. added another 10 gallons today using water from the main tank parameters look good so far I'm thinking water changes wednesday, and Sunday?

the setup. Is it normal for them to stay sheltered for a while? He hasent seemed to have left the pipe since I put him in there yesterday afternoon
