Would having an RODI shared between filling up tank and family (bypassing DI) work or is it always best to have them seperate?

Making my day.. didnt want to have 2 seperate systems.. hoping there is a way to fill up the tank and still be able to have drinking water from the RO at the same time

A Y connector before the DI resin. One side goes to your drinking water, one side to the resin and then off to your RODI storage.
You'll just have if/where you'll need valves on one/both of those lines. That would depend entirely on your set up.

Not my picture but I found this. Basically just use valves to determine where the water from the membrane goes.

This is exactly how mine is setup. Works great except i use it manually to fil 5 gal jugs at a time. Its under my kitchen sink which isnt optimal for dual use when i need to do other things in the kitchen but it allowed me to make my own RODI for the cost of adding a DI filter(about $30).
ill probably eventually install a dedicated system in my garage so i can always have it making RODI into a storage tank.

I use the same system for both, but I put a valve in to bypass the DI part of the filtration for drinking water. Not only would that deplete the DI resin faster that I actually need for making reef water, but there are studies that have found that drinking RODI water is actually not healthy for you. So when I make drinking water I turn the valve and bypass the DI, when I make RODI water for the tank I turn the valve back. There are two different outputs, one for RODI and one for just RO... Good luck!

Perfect thank you all!

I just had a culligan tankless installed at my sink. The unit is in the garage a nd pumps out 5 gallons in about 6-7 minutes probably. I haven't timed it but its pretty fast. also use it for drinking, coffee etc. It has a booster pump on it and flushed the membrane every few hours on its own. pretty sweet.
