Shipping delays- am i burnt?

Please read here before posting. Outside comments are not permitted per R2R's feedback forum policy. This is to allow the buyer and seller to have a streamlined conversation and hopefully come to a mutually satisfactory resolution in a negative transaction. If you would like to contribute your own feedback experience with either the buyer or seller, you may do so by creating your own feedback thread. Only the thread starter and vendor will have posting access. Thank you.

This is simple.

DOA dead on arrival. Regardless of shipping delay, the coral was dead on arrival.

Never met a vendor, even other hobbyist that wouldn't work with the buyer. Seems to me covering shipping, and $15 would be fare with me.

Have you not looked at the messages I sent lol I'm not sure why I'm responding to you but they all state they are not responsible for shipping delays... same with me. Doesn't matter what you think anyways, it matters what has actually happened and what the truth is. If you look at the one message I attached a picture of how the buyer said they were extremely satisfied with my communication even after they said the package was delivered. Despite everything else here, I still posted I am not responsible for shipping delays... how much more do you need to be satisfied? Glad it's not up to you lol wow just wow. Lastly. If you look at my videos from over a month ago you will see that piece in the front of my tank on the frag rack to the left. It just seems funny to me that your trying to speak into our business transaction without knowing what your talking about. I can't believe I spend as much time as I do justifying the truth and reality :-/
And at least one of those companies states that they will try to make it right. The message you posted about the buyer being happy with the communication was before the frag arrived DOA. I‘m glad that you don’t care what most of seem to think here so we don’t waste our time or money attempting a purchase with you. How many potential sales do you think you have lost by coming across as looking out for yourself over your customer. Good luck!

When I shipped the coral his weather was in the 50's. When it was supposed to be delivered the next morning the weather was in the high 50's. I will say this again for the 15th time now.. My auction says I am not responsible for shipping delays which is what happened.
You still haven’t said how it was shipped, priority overnight or simply next day. As @Kattkrazie stated, you seem to want your customers to assume all of the risk while you assume none. The more you post, the worse you look.

You decided to come on here when no one knew who you were to defend yourself after we told the OP to dispute the charge.

does that cover shipping delays? The frag is also five times the price.

I fail to see the problem here. The seller has told the buyer he will ship another one for the cost of shipping +15 bucks. That seems more than fair to me. Pretty much every coral vendor would do something similar. Basically this thread is complaining over $15 on a coral some places are selling for five times as much.

@Peace River can this thread pls b moved to the appropriate forum so the buyer and seller can communicate and work out their issues. Ty
This wasn’t vendor feedback, simply a member asking for advice. We didn’t know who the vendor was until he showed up after he didn’t like the advice given to the OP.

It doesn’t say it excludes them. They also only charge $29 for shipping, so the total was a little over twice the cost. Yeah, it’s a lot, but I’m sure they are accounting for shipping losses. It’s all part of running a business. Finding that price where you can sell your product, but if there are losses, it doesn’t put you out of business.

The seller has only stated that he offered to ship another frag for shipping cost plus $15. No proof that that message was ever sent through EBay like the buyer provided.

I'm not worried about losing future sales, there's plenty of people out there who are decent and understanding And understand the hobby and the risks. I'm not just another vendor trying to make money. I've offered to make this right even above and beyond what others do. Again this whole thing was out of my control. I shipped UPS next day air which actually delivers sooner than priority overnight FYI. I worked for UPS for 4 years and understand the shipping business better than most. Now I've seriously exhausted my efforts with this and I think some people just aren't capable of understanding. Also it doesn't really matter what anybody thinks after the fact, the fact is expectations were communicated before purchase in the description.

Well you may not be worried about loosing coustomers but you definitely lost me with your very first post. Best of luck to you.

That frag should have never been shipped way too fresh of a cut
Dude I've read all of your posts. Your a troll. Stop talking to people on here when you don't know what your talking about. The frag was cut almost 6 weeks ago.. I'm the one who cut it. Secondly, no coral vendor out there is responsible for shipping delays. None, period. Stop trolling and get a life. I do my best to help people out in this hobby and do the right thing but im not a charity event. There's so much more I could say but your a waste of time cause all.you do is talk negative.

Im sorry you feel that way. How would you feel if a bunch of stuff was being said about something you were heavily invested in that was a small fraction of the truth and tons of other peoples opinions about something they knew almost zero about. I've apologized a couple times for the way I reacted at 1st and still am sorry. I had just woke up and saw all this, hasn't been the best day or time of year but that's personal too :-(

Oh god
I made this thread because it stresses me out to communicate with someone when it's negative context. Bob is very prompt with responding to my inquiries. I understand the delays were not your fault, but they're still stressful to experience as i'm sure you know- it sounds like you've been on both sides of shipping delays as buyer & seller.
I tend to overthink & spend half the day trying to build a response in my head, I didn't know how or what to ask. I vented about being out the money but i wasn't trying to slander you or anything else like that Bob. I assumed there were risks when the savings were as significant as they were for this frag, I just wanted help in fully understanding them so I came here. The very last thing i wanted to cause was confrontation.
I wasn't picking and choosing what to show in order to make one of us look better than the other- I have just seen your message this morning about replacing for the cost of shipping + materials and that sounds good & fair to me, that's what I was kind of hoping for after the DOA. I just have a strict weekly budget to stick to for my aquariums and I topped it out for this week on this coral & stocking my 125 gallon freshwater. Does the offer stand thru week after next?

Yes it does, thank you for clarification I appreciate this.

That’s false about UPS next day air. They have delivered next day to me around 9pm multiple times. Here in Vegas FedEx Priority by noon is 1000 times better than UPS.

Probably for a few weeks after this debacle. :)

You didn’t do anything wrong nor did you come across as trying to be negative about the seller. You asked what we thought you should do. If the seller wanted to respond here, the best response would have been to ask you to contact him so that you two could work out an amicable solution and leave it at that. Unfortunately, that is not the tactic the seller took.

Glad it all worked out for you.

So, after all this….I’m happy with where I’ve bought pieces online. Everyone has had issues with shipping, and more so post Covid. I’ve had large frag boxes arrive with a lot of DOA’s. Not from delays, but from mishandling during the shipping process. The vendor I prefer asks for a heads up when something’s wrong, and will request pics if he’s trying to figure out what’s going on. With that, replacements have always been sent at absolutely zero cost to me. This has happened on a few different occasions and I always feel bad letting him know when something’s wrong as I know it wasn’t his fault. But, he also knows it wasn’t MY fault. Granted that’s part of what you pay for when you go with a larger, reputable vendor. Short term, he’s out shipping and a few frags. Long term, he has a customer that keeps coming back and is always happy to recommend him. That said, I feel for a guy who is slangin a few very cheap frags on the side. I’m not pointing fingers at either the seller or buyer but if I were trying to buy cheap frags, I think I’d be looking at clubs/fragswaps/shows where you get it in person. On the other hand, if I was trying to start a side hustle of selling frags, I think wouldn’t get involved in shipping them until I could eat a percentage of spillage/loss. I hope both parties walk away from this learning something.

I hope you all go to heaven :-)

Most stuff that I read goes along the lines of a seller can say that they aren't responsible for shipping delays, but most of them will work with the buyer. In this instance the guy said that he would replace the frag for the shipping cost plus $15. It probably costs him $15 in shipping materials and gas to take the package. I see that as being fair. I buy uline styro boxes to ship and $10 - $15 in material costs seems reasonable.

Your DOA policy might seem good to you as a seller, but to the buyers credit card company, bank or paypal it doesn't usually much matter. If I file a dispute and call it fraud because I ordered a "live WD frag" and I did not receive a live WD frag then ultimately the item was not as described and I'm going to win the dispute.

As a seller you just need to work these things into you margins as much as that sucks. Most coral sellers who say that they aren't responsible for acts of god or shipping delays will replace DOAs. Reputation is worth more that the cost of replacing a frag or two.
You make some points, but having disputed a R2R ripoff before, I can tell you that PayPal is all about sweeping trash under the rug. For instance, I bought a defective light, PayPal said to send it back to the seller, which I did. Seller refused to accept shipment and sent it back PayPal refused my claim because I didn't send it back because they said I didn't provide proof that I sent it back. Even with proof of shipping receipt because I "didn't have a picture of the box." This was nowhere in their instructions. Can't make this up. Don't use PayPal for ANY purchases. All they do is delay and deny so they don't have to pay out. Perhaps CC companies are better.
