Started tank back in May and just got my first zoa frag 3 weeks ago. Opened up right away and has been opening every day just fine until about 3 days ago. Now part of of it seems to stay closed all day. Haven’t seen anybody bothering it and parameters all seem fine. Should I be worried? Anything I can do to help it out?

Nitrate 10ppm
Calcium 380ppm

What about flow on that side is it a rapid flow or slim to none?

The flow on that side of the tank is aimed away and upwards for some surface movement. There is another power head on the opposite side of the tank, so there is flow, but nothing blasting it directly.

I have the same type of coral I put him all the way at the top and almost in direct path of pump and it loves it

My advise is to Day by day in the morning if u have time to move it upward towards the light and more towards flow till it finds a happy spot

They are a hearty coral tho mine made it through a nuke from a fungia plate coral and full tank swap and cycle

I’ll try moving up into more direct flow starting tomorrow then and see how it does. Thanks for the quick replies!

I think I might see a hydroid, I circled it here in your pic. They can put out a web of sorts that can irritate zoas and cause them not to open. It'll be a spiral at the base with a hard tube if it is. Check that before you start moving it around.

I started it out on the sand bed, then after a couple days moved it to where it is. Seemed happy for a few weeks (so I left it) but the side that has stopped opening is the side that would receive less flow from the power head on the other side of the tank (that power head is aimed more across the front of the tank).

I was taking a closer look this morning while they were all closed and I saw this.

Could this guy be the culprit?

I think that is some gha. My lawnmower blenny and I have been battling an outbreak.

Blow them with a turkey baster and see what's gonna happen.
If no visible irritators that you can find, like Aiptasia or a bug, besides that feather worm in the picture you just wait a bit more and it will open. The feather duster is ok there. Irritators could also be algae, amphipods, etc..
I wouldn't bring it close to the light, cause it doesn't seems to be the problem.
Grandis.

That’s what I did this morning when I found the feather worm. Did not see anything else that could be bothering them. I haven’t moved them at this point, but I did change the flow pattern on that side of the tank to see if anything changes with their behavior.
