60% Blue / 30% White 7hrs, plus 2 hrs moonlight

Crappy light, I know, but shallow tank, rockscape with high coral placement options, and no desire for SPS, so should get the job done.



I removed algae, no change in zoa behavior (if anything, getting worse). Opens in the morning, but within a few hours, half of the colony is closed up.

Try the Lugol's!

Turn off the pumps and add ~0.5ml right on them.
Leave for a minute or 2 and turn pups again...

I just re-tested water and everything looks great still. Does not appear to be parameter problem, not a flow problem, not a lighting problem. That leaves pest, right?

I hope the Lugol’s comes in time. Zoa looking worse today...

Could the water be too clean (Nitrates at only 5ppm)? Should I try feeding some Reef Chilli or even flakes to dirty it up a bit while I wait for the Lugol’s?

Prior to the treatment, 25% of polyps were open, but they all closed up as soon as the Lugol’s got close to them. Lights have been on for the last 5 hours today, and so far it is still completely closed up.

Today, we saw a few polyps open. Small progress, but progress nonetheless.

Your system is so young. Doesn't even have any coralline algae yet.
Make sure params are reef params. Alk, Ca, Mg...
Those polyps probably came from the wild and were cut and glued to that plug.
Do you know anything about that?
Make sure they have nice sweet flow and leave them alone for now.
We'll see what happens.
If there was anything microscopic bothering them should be gone with the Lugol's.

Zoas naturally carry many "bugs" among their tentacles in the wild and they are used to those organisms living among their polyps.
The problem happens when any specific type or species of "bug" reproduces too fast and becomes a pest irritating the polyps constantly. Some of those organisms are so tiny that we just can't see.
It is a good idea to dip the zoas prior placing them in the system.
That way you don't introduce those pests in your display tank.
Normally that isn't a huge deal though.
Have fun and leave the zoas alone... They'll be fine...

The colony did not make it. After the treatment, it started to disintegrate.

sometimes zoas will spread in front of your eyes and then others just slowly fade away.
I have great success with reds, yellows and pinks but anything green seems to just die of?
dont let it get you down, you did all you could for them sometimes it just is.
