Should I buy it? Testing question.

I have a nuvo 10, and im trying to have the thing covered in coral more or less eventually. I am trying to decide wether or not to buy the hannah alk and ulr phos tests. I can not decide. I do 20% water changes every week. Some people think that is enough to handle everything. I have no idea. Help me decide n.n

You will need the testers. Especially the ones you mentioned.

IMO with a 10g space of which once you add LR and coral you're down to like 6g... I would think doing a 50% water change every 2 weeks you wouldnt need to test anything EXCEPT Salinity.

With that small of water volume you should just buy the expensive top-of-the-line, gold standard, Tropic Marin salt and be d o n e with testing totally trusting the ultra quality of Tropic Marin

A 200g box of Tropic Marin would last you over 2 YEARS!!!!

Yea know that is s good idea i think. I currently use instant ocean right now.

Wait isnt the dkh of marine pro 7. If i plsn on running softies and lps isnt that a bad thing? Then i would have to dose, and need test kits.

Saltwateraquarium.com is doing a salifert sale right now. I wouldn’t drop the big bucks on a checker when you get manual tests for such a good price, especially for a tank that small.

You will need the test kits.
Water changed in a small tank are great but sometimes things happen and you need to be able to test.
Corals grow and consumption rates change.
Test kits are always needed WHEN you need them.

I test nothing, and water changes are enough. With that said, for such a small amount of volume you certainly can’t dose without a lot of testing.

Hannahs are great but cost more per test in the long run. They also take longer to test. You also have to calibrate them, and you have to clean them properly or they give false readings.

But for the price they are the most "advanced" if you will. They pretty much take human error out of testing.

If you go with hannah that's awsome but there are other options as well.

Check out giessemann. I really like there alk, phos, and calcium tests compared to other do it yourself ones.

IO, Reef Crystals, I used some red-sea stuff...... pretty much whatever is on sale...... will buy IO and RC and then mix a bag of each in a storage bucket a lot of times.

IMHO the checkers are worth the money, maybe right now WCs work for you, but you really dont know the rate of consumption of your tank unless you test, and stability is key. I´ve a pico reef in my office , 8 gallon, mixed reef, fully packed and two years old. My daily kh consumption is 1.6/1.7 dkh, if i relied only on weekly water changes my tank would crash, so testing is very important to keep your numbers in check

Ok guys. I got the hannah dkh and ulr phosphate test kits. For nitrate i use the trusty nyos. I slso ordered some sll for reef incase i need to supp later.

Agreed!!!

At 10gals routine water changes and a refractometer IMO is all you need.

Testing and dosing a 10g tank would be like buying an expensive meat thermometer probe to make sure your reheated chicken nuggets in the microwave are exactly 175degrees on the inside. Lololololololololol.

Glad you bought the good ones, you'll need them when you upgrade to a larger tank. (Ask me how I know...)
