Hey, I am kind of new to R2R and I have had a 29 gallon reef tank for about 1 1/2 months. So far everything is doing well. I have a pair of percula clowns and a baby hippo tang. I also have a few corals and a lot of invertebrates. I am planning to get a flame angel and a mandarin if it eats frozen foods. I saw that ORA made these filefish and they didn't have any signs of them pecking at corals. Should I get one?

Shouldn't mess with your corals, however, the two I had killed my puffers. Had to get rid of them

I am not getting any puffers so it should be fine. Thanks

Should I have to worry about one killing any of my fish or the fish I am planning on getting?

ive had two for several months now, i think theyre wonderful! i havent seen mine attack any other fish though, so camerons experience is the first ive heard. and mine arent interested in any corals, clams or otherwise....just food and as much as they can get!

Based on the fish you have and the other two you want to add, I would pass on adding anymore fish to your tank. Its best to keep small tanks more on the lighter side of stocking. This helps with waste control and overcrowding

you need to rethink your fish list. 29 gal. is not suitable for any tang, except for qt. a dwarf angel will terrorize a small tank. don't think you will be able to give a mandarin enough food. they need pods and lots of them, even if you happen to get one that takes other food. your tank is very young, so everything doing well now doesn't mean much. your headed for problems in the very near future. don't mean to sound like a jerk. just trying to point out your mistakes. research everything you intend on adding to the tank. I did the same thing years ago before the internet. total failure. I ended up cleaning out the tank and went freshwater.

Right now my Hippo tang is only about 2 inches long and I am going to trade him in for a new baby in about a year so he doesn't get too big. I am going to do the same thing with my flame angel. I found 2 mandarins in a store that eat frozen foods and it is relatively close to where I live so I mights get one of those.

Thanks for the heads up though and I will think about your suggestions.

I probably also should have mentioned that I have a 20 gallon sump (have about 10 gallons in it) so I have a lot of water flowing through my tank

Hahaha baby ray please keep us posted it's funny but sad honestly do your research I mest up the first time too

A 2 inch long tang still needs atleast 48 inches of lateral swimming space at a minimum. It's their behavioral requirement not their size. He will be stressed and suffer, up to you. Flame angel is too territorial. It's going to be bad.

Also, a mandarin cannot just survive on frozen foods. They have an incredibly fast metabolism and must eat constantly. That is why they can decimate a pod population in even a well established 75g tank. He will finish off your pods faster than you can replenish them (by a long shot) and eventually starve and die.

Right now my tang seems to be doing fine but I will keep an eye out for him stressing out. Thanks

I had a Flame angel in a 29 for 2 years moved it to a 100 gallon and it started eating every SPS polyp it could find. I would trade the Tang for the file fish

Can we see a pic of you tank? What kind of tank do you have

I will take a picture in the next couple of days, because I am going to be gone for a day or two. Thanks for the suggestions
