Should I have detritus accumulating in my sump?

I use a clean up crew in all my sumps..a turbo and I’ll pick a snail or two out of the tank along with a hermit

If it made it through the sock initially & accumulated at the bottom of the sump, why would it help to add it back it into circulation & just go through the sock again? If the crud has settled in the sump, then that is the best place for it to settle. It can then just be siphoned out (with or without a pump depending on the set up) as part of regular water change routine.
Never said it helps lol. As the sock gets dirty the micron rating goes up as less is able to pass through. It works for me and my sumps stay clean. Do what works for you.
And I dont do water changes either lol.

Of course, another option for detritus in the sump is to just leave it. That’s mostly what I do.

Ditritus in the sump is totally normal. Some poeple use the sump as a place to let the ditritus settle out and syphon it out regularly. Others will put a small powerhead in the sump to keepmthe ditritus from settling and removed by the skimmer or filter media. There will always be some funk in thqt settles in the sump no matter what. 200 micron is pretty standard for filter socks. I have some 10 micron socks to really polish the water periodically or when I use po4rx.

If you don't think it helps, then why mention it & the micron rating goes down as sock becomes clogged.

You are right about the micron rating my bad lol. Its just the way I do it. My detrius gets trapped in the sock by keeping it suspended.
One less thing to do.
Many ways to run a reef.
My tank speaks for itself lol.

And no problems with micro bubbles? I actually had considered running no baffles and was thinking it would probably work fine but wasn't sure about setting the height of the protein skimmer
You should try to keep it fairly clean.

I'm a believer in clean display, clean sump, etc...

Hi, I have a 20 gallon long sump with a 40 breeder reef tank that has just a few soft corals at this point. The live rock is well established for eight plus years.
My question is about detritus accumulating in the bottom of my sump. About every week there's a thin layer of these Brown looking pieces of detritus on the bottom of the entire sump. I can vacuum them up with a bucket head.
I am new to having a sump, so I don't know if this is normal or not. I have 200 micron filter sock. I'm assuming the stuff is leaking through that? Do I need a different filter sock or is this just normal?
Thanks

Yes it's normal.
I have a similar issue and when I do water changes I vacuum it out.
