Should Rodi water have any Alk reading

Hopefully an expert will be able to enlighten us on what is happening to me. I thank myka but it doesn't make sense to me what's going on here

The alkalinity spike being caused by the RO/DI water is not possible provided you're sure the TDS reading is accurate. Even typical tap water wouldn't change alkalinity significantly unless it was a big water change or the tap water has really high alkalinity. Keep looking. :)

Not sure what's going on, put purified water has no alkalinity......zippo.....zero....nadda. As others have said, something is off.

As per Hanna's website (http://shop.hannainst.com/hi755-alkalinity-saltwater.html), the Checker is for marine water, not freshwater. It does say the range is 0-300 ppm, and there is no way marine water would be 0 alkalinity. So I guess it's quite possible that it will not work properly with freshwater. Mine seemed to work properly last night when I tested the RO/DI.
 
Make a small batch of saltwater with fresh ro/di and see what the alkalinity is at 1.026 :)

Cause I don't think you understand that reading ALK in freshwater is not the same as salt water.
Your chasing a number that is not relevant to the testing methods.

I don't know, but the method that the Hannna checker uses is not a normal titration method and they do not say exactly what they are doing in it. Somehow they must add some acid and a dye and look at the color change, but I would not expect it to always work outside the limits they have claimed. I also worry it won't read CaCO3/CO2 reactor effluent correctly, although they claimed otherwise when I pressed them on the issue.
 
Thanks everyon for the input I still haven't found the culprit of my alk spike yet but I do have a better understanding of my Hannah meter

It went from 8.75 to 13.8 over about four days all corals and fish have survived. I was using a doser and that's the only thing I can think malfunctioned. I turned off the doser and monitoring twice a day and it's slowly been falling. I didn't change anything or add anything and it had been rock solid for two months never moving than all the sudden a spike so not sure what happens really
 
That's why I tested my rodi water because the only thing that had changed was me switching out my filters on my rodi it's the only thing I changed at all

RO/DI water has nothing it, it will never read correctly. Have you ever taken a pH reading of RO/DI? It will read out of whack as well
