Show me your externally plumbed Jeboa DC pump.

I am setting up a water station and want to see how everyone else has the Jeboa DC pump plumbed in externally. Any threaded pipe fittings that work on the Jeboa?

Standard threaded PVC fittings I believe. Just remove the guard. Should be threaded under there.

Kind of. Its going to be my water station pump to mix and transfer saltwater. As far as I know Jeboa are good for both internal and external use.

I run a DCP15000 on my mixing station. No issues running external. Slip fittings for 1” pvc worked fine (glued...obv).

To add more pictures of externally installed jeboas. To note we have had instances were the housing will start to leak a little after 6 months. We run a lot of them.

If they do leak it is a new pump. Jeboa doesn't sell parts because of the price point. You can run lem internally with a little leak though.

i was also told they can be used externally. i use mine for a water station as well. i just ordered my third pump in 10 months, so there may be something to what @Lasse is saying. mine is in an outside garage. i used to run mine constantly to keep saltwater mixed, but may turn it off and on as needed and maybe that will help. if this one craps out, time for a switch.

Its a question of heat. These earlier pumps are not constructed in a way that the water chill them internally - they will be chilled by the water surrounding them when they are in water. The air does not chill them in the same way. air can´t store heat the same way as water. If you only run the for ten minutes and a long pause - they maybe can work for a while. As I understand - the Coral Box DCA smart pumps is constructed in a way that the streaming water in the house also goes into the motorblock and chill the motorblock that way. Some old EHEIM pumps are constructed that way. There is a reasons why they do not recommend most of their pumps for external use.

Thanks Lasse. I do respect your opinion for sure. There is always a risk of failure with these cheaper China knock off pumps even when used as designed. I have 5 Jeboa products and each as been trouble free for me so far. DC1200 return pump bought used, 2 PP-8 powerheads bought new and all 3 have been running for 2 years no issues, 1 OW-20 bought used and working great and a DP-4 doser. So far Jeboa has been good to me. If the pump fails I will just get another. Im not spending a bunch of money on a pump that will mainly be used for mixing saltwater.

I have had so many Jeboa products fail. Don’t use them from return pumps IMO. Their customer service is non-existence

I suppose I should note a few things on my setup as well.

I typically don’t run the pump for long periods of time. As Lasse states, heat could become an issue, however, I believe the DCT and DCP pumps that I have used have an “eyebrow” shaped inlet into the motor block for cooling. Can’t speak to all of them, just what I’ve used and seen. Probably not as good as subversive cooling but so far no issues.

some people seem to have issues with Jebao stuff, I have had several give me many years of service. For my mixing station pump I did preemptively put some silicon on the seal between the impeller housing and motor block. End of the day, they are cheap and honestly I have been relatively issue free with them, but I also don’t expect them to be as well made as a German or American made pump. For the price you can usually afford a spare on the shelf and still come out saving money. And yes, no tech support out there, but for 1/3 the price can you expect much?

Here is a picture of a Varios which all of their pumps have a cooling loop. The area circled in red is a channel that leads to the back of the pump. Water flows back and out through the front.

@Lasse Do you have a link that says CoralBox can be used externally? I believe they say the same as Jebao only internal.

All of my pumps with one exception is Jebao/Coral Box brands. I use the old RW-8 as wavemakers and three different circulation pumps. The exception is a small Tunze nanostream 6040. Chosen because of its construction and small size. Its hidden.

For the price you can usually afford a spare on the shelf and still come out saving money.

Exactly - I have invest 4 years and a lot of money in my reef in order to get it exactly (or rather close to) how I want it. I do not want to spoil that because I have to wait for spare parts. Every pump I have (without the Tunze) have a pal on the shelf.

Yes - that homepage normally has to be read in order to understand what they mean - not what they write

But @Reef Breeders maybe can confirm/reject my statement about these pumps - they sell them.

Lasse do you have the CoralBox DCA return pump? If so I wonder that notch or hump on the top of the pump is a channel for water to go through. Sort of like the Varios I posted above. Thanks

I just noticed from the picture above the old Jebaos have that same notch on top

It looks like there is differences between the different Coral Box DCA there at least my 4000 and 2000 skimmer pump can handle external mount. The do not have an intake the same way as the Vario but some have the impeller mounted on a cover plate with holes in - others have a regular impeller - see pictures

The impeller in the middle has holes as well , but that looks like a needle wheel
