Ya it's a Japanese Dragon Eel, I got it from one of my lfs's for $750 when it was around 18 inches its now around 24 inches. I'm in SoCal where are you located and how much$$$ were they asking?

Baltimore, they were asking $1000, maybe 1200. I would need a bigger tank too, so that expense on top of that.

Yup, I started my current job in1985, I'm 52 so the plan is collect my pension and for social security purposes (only) I've already got a job waiting for me at one of my lfs's. My wifey said that's a great plan just don't come home with corals everyday you work!

Reefing is easier than it looks or sounds, stick to the basics, have power backups, ignore a few thousand experts, keep it simple and stable, avoid the 90% of snake oils in the market, be patient, love your reef and everything will be Alright. P.S. The good news is in my signature! haha

I like the positive attitude. And your reef!

It certainly seems much more complicated these days. My first reef in '88 I had a HOB skimmer feeding a Fluval 300 canister filter which returned via a spraybar... not even a sump. Swing arm hydrometer. The actinic bulb was as fancy as I had. It was certainly simpler.

Thank you. In 1990 I had no sump either but had a fluval canister similar to the model you refer (can´t remember the exact model) full of ceramics and fiber or sponge foam and the skimmer was at one corner inside the tank... it was just a plastic tube with a wooden diffusor connected to an air pump and a very small cup to collect skimmate.
