SigMarabi's Reefer 525 XL

Well, I had a significant setback. I dropped my skimmer and broke the base and the four nylon screws. Tried to glue it together and got stainless steel screws but after sime testing I decided that it's not worthy to start a tank with a broken skimmer so I ordered a new one.

Last wave of equipment: DOS pump with DDR, A second battery backup for main return pump, and brand new skimmer.

Dang sorry about the skimmer!

Bad News, tank has massive leak. Bulk head piece is broken but since it's fixed to the glass then entire tank has to be replaced. Good news is Red Sea responded quickly. Now waiting game begins...... ^#//×€÷£$^÷_×

Ugh... thats always disappointing. Sorry for that - it was one of my biggest fears in getting my 525 set up, but mine was ok (luckily). Good luck with the waiting- hopefully they can get you your tank shortly.

Man, that really sucks... I guess it could of been a WHOLE LOT WORSE if the tank was already well established with livestock. I think that's first time I've seen that type of failure.

Set backs always suck, but at least this one was before anything was in the tank! Red Sea pulls through yet again!!!!

First the skimmer (my fault) and now the tank so I'm 2 for 2 which is pretty dang good for a brand new tank LOL. If it was a well established tank I would be taking pills for depression.

Good for you! . I've put a lot of work already in this build not to mention $$$ but waiting waiting is always a killer. We want it NOW LOL

I filled out the form last night and this morning they had already responded. They requested pictures which I sent right away and in no time they told me a new tank will be underway. So far so good Red Sea.

Red Sea is really good about taking care of problems. My first Red Sea tank was a Max C-130 and it had a slow leak right at the bottom seam. I sent Red Sea a couple pictures and a video of it slowing leaking out. They responded quick and sent a replacement tank and stand since the leak also ruined the stand. My current tank is a Reefer 450 and when I got it I noticed that it didn't come with filter socks. Called them up and they sent them right out, all they needed was my serial number. Red Sea has great customer service.

And FYI EcoTech also has great customer service if you should ever have a problem with any of their products.

So I decided to "cure" the dry rock I got from brs in a 45G brute tank since it smelled pretty bad after soaking in tap water. A pulled some dead stuff from the rock but I guess it had too much. Using Prime for Ammonia Nitrite and Nitrate. Should I use nitrifying bacteria as well ? Need some input.

If you put in the nitrifying bacteria your rocks will be cycled by the time you get the next tank. But then you don't want prime, since it can interfere with the cycle. My BRS pukani had a bunch of sponges. I recommend looking and poking at each rock to get as many out as you can. After a 6 week cure I cut some of the rocks there were a few sponges inside that cant be seen from the surface.

Sorry to hear about the tank! Good luck on the build!

Following. This looks like it is going to be a great build. Sorry about the delay with the tank.
