Simon's 450

Its been a while since a video, I love watching your tank!

On another note how much more skimmate would you say your skimmer produces since your modification?

My system has never been a big skimmate producer ..... not really sure why (or why not). I do get faster ‘spackle’ buildup on the swabbie, so the longer contact times have done something.

Very nice build! Love the flow. What flow patterns are you running on your vortech with the wxm? Mind sharing some screen shots?

It’s nothing exotic. One pump on each end runs synch/antisynch with pulse some of the time and reef crest at varying intensities other times. The other two pumps just run reefcrest at varying intensities. I’m actually not sure how to do an apex screen shot.

I mentioned having done a major pruning on my tank .... mostly of the green slimmer. I didn’t worry about properly orienting the remaining branches figuring they’d sprout nubs towards the light. Six weeks and lots of nubs. Colony will fill in by the end of the year I’d guess.

Beautiful tank.

Does (or in the past, has) the aggressiveness of the damsels limited the choices of tank mates in your system?

Not really. I have a bunch of tangs that will give any new addition 'the business' but the damsels mostly just bicker amongst themselves. They are all chrysiptera genus damsels which tend to be less aggressive. No three stripe or domino chez moi.

Thanks - were the damsels relatively early additions to your tank or did you add any non-tang/damsels prior to the bullies being added to the mix?

Most of the tangs, though not all, preceded the large addition of damsels. Key to damsels, IME, is to give them plenty of space to establish their micro-territories and have enough of them to disperse aggression. Very shy fish, like some of the basslets, are probably best avoided. At last count, I have 3 rollands, 5 talbots, 5 azure, 1 starki and 40-50 yellow tails (they're hard to count).

LOL .... that's my QT tank.

Oh I see .... well, the lapillus is a replacement for my old one that passed of old age (7 years) a few months ago. Viviens I could not resist .... what’s one more fish ....

this is the thought process that has me looking down the barrel of like 25 fish in my 100g tank :D

Oh there’s little question that I have far too many fish. 135 at last count ..... well, more at last estimate. Worked up a serious nitrate problem. Added a sulfur reactor that dealt with the nitrates but now I’ve a sulfur problem. Fortunately the corals don’t seem bothered. I haven’t lost a frag or colony to STN/RTN in years .... though any new frags have to be protected from the angels for a week or so.
