Hi guys!!! New to R2R, and happy to find an awesome forum for reefing!! I have a Six Line Wrasse that is now showing some signs that I am concerned about. The main thing I am concerned is a blemish on one side that looks like skin “scales and coloring “ are peeling off. Can anyone help with identifying what this is and what would be best to take care of it? I’ll add the best pic I have. Also I do normal and frequent water changes and all my parameters are the best they can get! Thanks for the help!!!

Can you start us off with some info. What are your water parameters. What are the fishes other tankmates. Is it eating and swimming normal. Did you run it through any kind of quarantine before putting it in your display. And how secure is your rockwork?

Here are the actual parameters when I last tested.
Salinity = 1.025
Ph = 8.4
Ammonia = 0
Nitrites = 0.025 ppm
Nitrates= 0

Also tests at the my lfs have told me alkalinity, and magnesium have all been good. As far as other fish mates,I only have 3 clown fish that are eating and swimming great! And the wrasse is eating and swimming around awesome as well! Currently do not have a quarantine set up. And the rock work is pretty solid. Thanks for helping Crabs_Mcjones!!!!

What size tank do you have? Depended on size you may want to eventually consider rehoming one of the clowns. Generally what happens is two of them will pair up, and beat up on the odd man out until hes dead. And your detecting nitrites but not nitrates? How did you cycle your tank and what did you use to cycle it? :)

Hey! Do you have a heater in your display? Is the little fella acting funny?

36 gallon tank, I had nitrates go up, but they came back down. All 4 fish in the tank have been getting along very well from what I have observed. They will swim together all over the tank, except in between the rocks, I have never seen the clowns go thru any of the swim holes yet

They'll act fine now, but once they reach maturity and start asserting dominance and deciding which one will be dominant and pair up with another, the third one will be beat up on.

Thanks! I will definitely keep an eye on their behaviors in the future!!

As far as the sixline. My guess is he got wedged between some rocks or something and squirmed to get out. I'd recommend just keeping a close eye on him. Keep him well fed with good water parameters :)

Welcome!!!

I've had similar injuries on my coris wrasse and also my melanurus wrasse (which passed away due to the injury) and I think #crabs_mcjones is right that it is an injury caused by it running into a rock or getting stuck between rocks. This has happened to my coris wrasse twice and he pulled through both times, but my hovens wrasse didn't make it. I would recommend vitamins with it's food and also look out for infection.

The nitrites are a little bit concerning. You shouldn't have any in a properly cycled tank. The presence of any is potentially harmful to fish. Or did you get the nitrates and nitrites mixed up?

Thanks for the information!!! I will keep an eye for infection and look into some vitamins
