What do you think of Six line wrasses? Good or Bad? Share your horror stories or model citizens.

IME...Mostly hides and you only see them DART from one spot to another.

Eventually you forget it's in there M.I.A. and on a rare sighting you see 'em and be like, "oh yeah, forgot about him..."

I love them. I have had two. The first jumped in my first tank. It was so much fun to watch. For my new tank, I waited until I received my screened lid before looking to add a second. The second swam straight into a power head after a few weeks. This evening, in fact.

Definitely worth it if yours aren’t suicidal.

Really? I heard they are usually quite confident and active swimmers?

Model citizen. Peaceful, entertaining - absolute workhorse when it comes to pest control. 2 years+ without a single issue. Apparently I'm in the minority...
Thinking of getting one. Hopefully I'm in the minority too! ;)

They love patrolling. They're like submarines: one minute they're there - the next they've disappeared. Cave spelunking is a favorite pastime while on patrol...

Are you planning to try a third one @rhostam?
I don’t know. I waited a long time before replacing the first one. I was just commenting today that he looked great and so active, but unnamed. We were thinking of names during dinner and when I went to check tank just before lights out I noticed something sticking out of the power head. Looks like he tried to dart in and out. But failed.

:(

Big no, no for me. Most of them turn into jerks once they grow bullying and killing other fish. If you want a wrasse there are better options like melanarus, yellow, green, fairy, etc.

I was waiting for my lfs to get one in stock, I enjoyed the one at my work. Ive read alot if how they can be bullies though. Ended up finding the naoko wrasse and have zero regrets. His colors are vivid and hes a goof. Its like hes always dancing when he swims. And he likes to get in front of the powerhead and let him blow him across tank and does loops and flips, then goes to do it again. I would recomend over a 6 line anyday now.

I have my first in QT right now. Was shy at first and now darts around inspecting everything. Hopefully he stays a model citizen in the main tank when added this week.

Do those still eat pests though?

I have 5 wrasses in my tank and I enjoy them all. The 6 line is cool because he swims like a torpedo in and out of the rocks and hunts pests all day. He is a model citizen.

How big is your tank?
65g DT with 15g sump 36" wide. I have a rohmboid wrasse, yellow coris, pintail fairy, 6 line and blue streak cleaner wrasse. No aggression problems at all but the rohmboid is the tank boss.

My melanarus wrasse has eaten two elegance corals so far.

Are you sure? they do not eat corals, I have had two, and seen many in my friend’s tanks and they are all model citizens.

Strange you mention that my big elegance was closed up today. I know the shrimp steals food from it and some of the fish do too but never seen any wrasse snacking on it.
