I picked up an elos 160 and am going to have a custom sump made but before I do that need to get the skimmer. My two choices are the aquamaxx cone s co-3 or the reef octopus sro 5000 int. I was wondering which one you would go with and why? If there are any other skimmers out there that you may also recommend without breaking the bank? Thanks ahead of time for any input

What size tank? I am using two diff ones a BM NAC9 on my 180 and a vertex omega 150 on my 90

The omega is good 150 the nac9 is good to over 400. Look at what is recommended for your tank and then go one up from that to be sure to have good pull out

It came with the elos ns2000 skimmer which I was told is rated for 530 gallons but it's the old style skimmer

How much on sro 5000 i have seen price at over 600. Its good to 500 the nac9 is 400 and good 530

That's y I was thinking the aquamaxx which is around $400 and rated for up to 500 but not sure how good they r since they r pretty new

The one diff i see between the ones you are looking at and bm nac9 is pump placement and footprint of skimmer the bm is not external of skimmer it is internal

We run a SRO3000 on our 150G with a 30G sump and I think we are well taken care of IMHO.
