I’ve given up on the Vertex omega 130. Recommendations please!

The system is almost 55 gallons total volume With 7 fish. It has a sump with space for a skimmer.

I’ve been looking at one of the Reef Octopus 150 models from the regular to the nicer ones with the DC pumps. Are they worth the extra cost?

another one I’ve beenseeing good things on is Red Sea skimmers any thoughts?

I’m open to other brands as well potentially!

I had the Omega 150..I gave up and got the Reef Octopus Regal 150ss. I absolutely LOVE it!

How old is the tank? How does everything look? Maybe the tank doesn't need a skimmer? Don't get me wrong a skimmer is definitely a great tool to have, but then again so is good husbandry. Don't overstock, don't overfeed, keep those socks clean etc. I remember a time when keeping Phosphates & Nitrates at zero was ideal, but that doesn't seem to be the case anymore.
Just something to think about. Maybe give it a shot for a month or so and see what happens. GL.

This is tough because evryone has their favorites.
Mine is the Tunze 9410 dc. I have one on my 120 and a non dc on my 45 frag/lagoon system.
I would have gone with
Both dc's but got a deal on a used standard.
Tunze skimmers are very underrated imo.
Easiest cup to clean, anti overflow, truely set and forget.
I set my dc on the 120 when I started 10.5 months ago.
Never had to adjust it or even turn it off when feeding, cleaning, or working in tank mounting frags.
Get the DC version its quieter than the non dc.
Ok I like Tunze equipment.

Is vertex omega a bad skimmer? I just bought one and havent unboxed it, should I return it?

I have an Essence 130 for my 40 Breeder, so about 50 gallons total system and so far it has been a bit over powered, easy to dial in though, so hopefully as I increase bioload over the next few months it will be perfect.
