Skimmer trance

Sooooooo I'm just wondering how many people sit and stare at their skimmer for like an hour? I often do this kinda like sitting and watching a campfire or fountain or something. My wife says there's something wrong with me and I need to get me head out of the sump! Lol does ANYONE else do this or am I just a loser?

Skimmers are fascinating for sure. I catch myself staring at mine. With that said, I usually move on after about 30 seconds

I catch myself doing this all the time. I actually sometimes sit down and brain storm while staring at it lol. We can make a looser club!

Lol! I only stare for a sec to make sure its skimming properly. I love staring at sps polyps for hours!

Just so I'm clear....usually an hour at skimmer and an hour at dt!!! Wife hates me lol!

Guilty. I try not to spend to much time down there or someone will walk by and kick me or put something on my back.

I'm guilty too! I think it started when my skimmer was new and I would watch as it was breaking in. I would adjust it and watch for a few to see if it was ok. Now every time I open the stand I catch myself staring at it for 10 or 15 min! It is relaxing or something. Glad there are other weirdos out there too!!!

lol Thats TOO funny. I always stare at my tank and sump. Checking my ATO level and just seeing how everything is doing, even if I was JUST looking at it 10 minutes prier. LOL I can't get enough of my SW tank right now. My new 33L has only been up for 5 1/2 months so far. Everything is looking great and all my small frags are starting to take off. Thats why Im always looking at it.

That's FUNNY! A fair amount here...not sure I'd say "often".

I'd say we're THE THINKERS CLUB. Similar to others, to me it's almost a meditation. De-e-ep Tho-u-ght. LOL

I just went and stared again. I just noticed how much I actually do it! If I go to look at my display I can't help but open the stand and stare. I don't think any deep thoughts crossed my mind though, definitely didn't figure out the meaning of life by any means!

Certainly on new skimmers or after modding a design to tweak the settings but not after I find the sweet spot.

Nooo! Its only good when they are broke in! Nothin like staring at a broken in gunked up skimmer! After tweaking it is a given and you gotta check on it, only when there is no reason to stare is when the meditational like qualities come out! A.k.a. skimmer trance

Yes I do this all the time. I've tried to make an effort to reduce this as it seems pointless in retrospect. It's very hypnotic though.

I think it could be argued that temporary pointlessness may be the whole idea of a trance or meditation. Worrying about the pointlessness defeats the purpose! LOL.
