Looks like there is smoke coming out of my Trochus snail. It's spitting smoke like fumes in my water column. It looks like its spraying something. Is it trying to spawn? or dying? Any idea? Here's a video.

Am I going to get stuck worth thousands of snails now?
Probably not ... most of the eggs get lost in filtration and the larvae are good food for fish and crustaceans, very few get into adult life.

Thank you, that's good to know. This tank had some issues, it'd be pain to deal with so many snails of that happened.
Some of my Trochus snails died a few days after spawning, especially males, which release the "white smoke," the females also release thousands of spherical eggs, which are visible to the naked eye, yellow-orange in color. If any Trochus snail remain standing in the same place a long time, remove it and check, it may be dead.

holy SMOKES - (pun intended) - that is probably one of the COOLEST things i have seen in a tank for A WHILE!

LOL Thanks. In 3 years that I've been keeping reef tank I never seen trochus spawning before. this was my first time as well. It was really cool to watch.
