Smoke coming out........

Looks like there is smoke coming out of my Trochus snail. It's spitting smoke like fumes in my water column. It looks like its spraying something. Is it trying to spawn? or dying? Any idea? Here's a video.

Probably not ... most of the eggs get lost in filtration and the larvae are good food for fish and crustaceans, very few get into adult life.

Thank you, that's good to know. This tank had some issues, it'd be pain to deal with so many snails of that happened.

Some of my Trochus snails died a few days after spawning, especially males, which release the "white smoke," the females also release thousands of spherical eggs, which are visible to the naked eye, yellow-orange in color. If any Trochus snail remain standing in the same place a long time, remove it and check, it may be dead.

LOL Thanks. In 3 years that I've been keeping reef tank I never seen trochus spawning before. this was my first time as well. It was really cool to watch.

ya... check in your sump... you may see some really small ones show up in there... Mine have done it before.. but I think maybe only one or two ever made it to an adult.

So far .....no snails. I was really hoping to get few baby snails ...........
