Hi,

Thanks for taking the time to take a look at my pictures and maybe read my updates :) :)

So my old tank went pop on Christmas Day and a replacement was needed... It took me about 5 weeks to decide what to do... I very nearly gave up and walked away from the hobby... But SWMBO said don't do it just but a new tank... I nearly fell of my chair...

So the hunt was on.... To custom build or shop buy... Well a few hours later I realised custom building a tank wasn't an option due to price... So it was a shop bought tank... The Reefer had been out for a while and the 525xl had just recently been launched... Job done I went and checked out the smaller tanks and decided the build quality was excellent and that the 525xl would fit behind the door...

Had to wait a week or so for it arrive as I had to remove the old tank and check the floor... It arrived on a pallet and the fun begun....

I'm just pulling my pictures together but here are a couple for now...

Congrats on the new tank. I'll following along to see your progress. Heck of a Christmas present with a tank going "pop". Were you able to save the inhabitants?

Haha Just realised it looks like I have one fish...

Stock list -

Yellow Tang
Kole eye Tang
Black Miles Lion Fish
Zebra Eel
One very brave cleaner shrimp...
Few bits of CUC (need to buy some more)

Large Bubble coral
Various Hammers
Purple Green tip torch
Various Zoas
Huge Heliofungia
Various Acans
Various Mushrooms
Trachy
Elephant Eye or Doughnut coral

Thank You... Yep for the money they are really good...

Well it's been a while...

The downs first... I decided to change my fish stock... My Lion fish had killed my newly hatched shark, My Zebra eel thought the floor was a better place to live... So I found great homes for the remaining fish and put a new fish list together... £250 later the tank was restocked with baby versions... Chocolate tangs, Royal Grammers, Gobies, Clowns and a pin stripe wrasse... Everything was fine for the first few days and then the first pair of clowns died... Seemed to just starve to death... Purchased another pair expensive ones this time... Less than a week later that set of clowns were dead along with the pair or Royal Grammers... I was gutted and I have now finally realised its time to sort out a QT system at home... (In progress still)

So with no new fish stock going in the tank I have added some corals and concentrated on what I had left...

The Ups - The pair of Chocolate tangs are doing really well, the wrasse is like a little bullet very active, Star Blenny is a right little character and my chalk goby is in there somewhere... They seem lost as they are still small but plenty of time and space to grow... I will get my QT up and running and attempt to re-add a pair of Grammers and a Naso tang (I miss my big buddy after he passed away last year..) May even chance another wrasse and another tang as well...

The corals are doing really well. I'm now using the New Coral Labs LPS schedule as you all know I'm an Ecotech fan.. The Rest of the Reefer is fantastic it's the first new tank I have ever owned and I would recommend one to anyone. I have a very small project this weekend to DIY a split return nozzle I guess it's the tanks only weak point that single outlet doesn't really offer any solution other than blasting the water forwards to the front of the tank..

I have retuned to basic dosing now I am hooked on my LPS no real need for a Calc reactor when a couple of dosers can get the job done.

Just sorting through some pictures and will post them a bit later on.

Thanks for reading.

Looks good!

sn2per,

Great thread! Would you mind telling me what kind of Reef Octopus you're using?

By the way, do you like your Radions? I've owned two before and loved them but the light bleed always drove me crazy.

Hi Antics, it's a sss2000 I think that's right... New for me but an older model. I got it in part exchange a while ago for another tank that split so now it's running the reefer... The sump is pretty deep so it's standing on an eggcrate box filled with Siporax..

I'm a huge Ecotech fan and run a group a FB... The Gen2pros that I am running in my opinion are the best lights value for money they have made... They come up rarely on the secondhand market.... They have a little more punch that the standard gen3's...

Thanks for you comments about my thread... The tank is coming along nicely and the fish levels will increase at some point... :)
