Snails all at water surface??

Their intertidal nerites.... it feels natural to them. I've found them several ROOMS away from the tank and I had carpet at the time. It's nothing to do with your water.

One of a couple reasons I won't put any more nerites in my tank. They seem more likely to get in to places that you don't want them than other types of snails. They also are unable right themselves if they get turned over.

These rougher shelled guys like to re-enact Shawshank... I guess they're called the "Caribbean Nerite".

"The nerite crawled to freedom through five hundred yards of detritus-smelling foulness I can't even imagine- or maybe I just don't want to.".

I don't know if I've ever found one of the smooth ones outside of the tank. The ones I have are pretty old now. They're called the "Pacific Nerite". I like them a lot and are super hardy. They are my #1 go-to snail.

It's funny how their experience is opposite of how they act in my tank. My rough surface ones are all at the top and my smooth ones are all on the rock. The kids made me swear I wouldn't buy any more of the rough ones afraid they'll crawl up the stairs and eat them at night.
