We get this question all the time. We do suggest hobbyists always quarantine fish from every vendor no matter what they say just to be as safe as possible with your display tank.So do these fish need to be qurantined?
Thanks for this info Jake (@Biota_Marine)! I have a Mandarin arriving tomorrow from BIOTA (Florida Facility) and I was Googling for more info on your quarantine process. I found your message which made me feel better about the condition of the fish. Unfortunately I don't have a QT but I've purchased all my other fish from a facility that has a very thorough quarantine process. We get this question all the time. That being said the only wild broodstock we receive is at our Palau, Hawaii, and North Carolina facilities and never touches our main Florida systems. We consider our Florida facility bio-secure because it is only limited to our employees and we take major precautions to prevent issues. Even the captive-bred fish we receive from all our facilities are separate, monitored, and grown-out for 30 days before being introduced to our salable population.
So maybe not a full prophylactical medicated quarantine period but a monitoring period in a QT tank to ensure everything is on the up and up and there are no surprises. What I've learned in this hobby is anything can happen.
