So I was at a LFS today and picked up a nice little octopus. I have been looking at them for years and always wanted one. As it happens my 134g is just cycled so I moved all it's fishes in and turned over my 24x24x16 cube to this guy. I will get some better vid after he/she settles in a bit, the vid was taken at the store before we bagged it.

good luck man.. hope you got a tight lid.. just curious how much was he.

Yeah I put a sheet of glass over the top and the overflow is tight to the euro brace so should be good. Not sure I should post a price as I'm in the industry and do some wholesale business with the LFS I got him at, so it was mildly above cost, let's say more than $10 and under $40.

How about a little info on it? I dont know much about them...

Not sure the species yet, store said it came in with some others that were just labelled reef octopus. It makes some serious colour Changes and is stripped sometimes, it also looks like it has algea all over like some angler fish.

Cool little guy. Keep a tight lid and be ready for a big water change in case you spook him enough where he inks. Good luck with him :)

I had one before one of the coolest things I got to experience there very smart but I would nt put to much rock in the tank or you will never see it an they don't last long only a couple years in the wild so enjoy while you can

Not too much rock there, I also wish they lived longer. Being that I'm in the industry I use only the best stuff so it will have no lack of excellent equipment food or care.

Nice lil guy. Good luck with him/her. I had one for six months and got out a few times. But after a month haveing him. I had to take out some rock and just left 2 baseball size LR in. They hide most of the day and really came out at night only.Very Smart too. I also had him in a hamster ball cage inside the tank when I wanted to show him off to friends. Other wise no one believed he was inthere. lol

Thats sooo cool!! I have started to get a blue ring a few times but its hard to swallow knowing how short their life is:( Good luck with him and keep us posted please!!!

Nice I've wanted to do a cuttlefish tank and eggs are in season right now hmm and a blue ring octopus would be awesome I just know with my luck I'd get bit and be done with lol good luck with the octo man!

They are totally coral safe, and I wish it was a mimic (awesome score) if it is it's a juvenile. I may have to do that with the rock, it made its home under some and is in hiding. It tried to eat my pistol shrimp, I managed to net him out when he was chased from his hole, his goby may not be so lucky. If the goby only knew I was trying to save him he might be more co operative.

snapped some pics tonight. Sorry for the poor quality she/he is shy and doesn't really co-operate, i did catch a few color changes though.

I have done research with octopi, they are very good at escaping and need a lot of things to keep them busy. If your feeding them fiddler crabs, shrimp, etc. the best thing is to put them in a jar and close it, they will get it out and keep them stimulated for awhile, also, clay pots turned on their side will make a good place for them to hide out. They are mostly nocturnal, so you probably won't see him much during the day unless they are hungry. These are really hard to keep, a lot of attention needs to be put on them keeping water quality within good parameters. also, most octopi won't eat dead stuff, so they can be expensive to maintain...just some things I have learned. Hope this helps
