I have done research with octopi, they are very good at escaping and need a lot of things to keep them busy. If your feeding them fiddler crabs, shrimp, etc. the best thing is to put them in a jar and close it, they will get it out and keep them stimulated for awhile, also, clay pots turned on their side will make a good place for them to hide out. They are mostly nocturnal, so you probably won't see him much during the day unless they are hungry. These are really hard to keep, a lot of attention needs to be put on them keeping water quality within good parameters. also, most octopi won't eat dead stuff, so they can be expensive to maintain...just some things I have learned. Hope this helps
Actually the species I had (finished its life cycle this month) was not prone to escape and was diurnal, so it was very active during the day. It was the easiest of all the reef creatures I've kept. It cost me a whopping $.40 cents a week to feed live. Head over to Tonmo, to learn more about cephalopods, it is a great ceph only forum. Cheers
