So it starts

Does Petco sell the tank for the sane price as Drs Foster & Smith? I know they merged, but when I bought that tank, Drs Foster & Smith was cheaper, plus they have coupons that lower the price.

But it's a good quality tank. When you get your new one, check the glass at the bottom corners in the filterration area. I had 2 tanks with stress cracks back there in the same spot from things being stacked on it. It wasn't until I personally asked my UPS guy to not stack stuff on top of it in his truck that it came unbroken. He said he wouldn't stack, but couldn't guarantee the tractor trailers would do that. But it arrived good once I mentioned that to him.

Good luck! Do you have all of your mods picked out for corals? There's a guy that makes custom lids for it that fit great if you're using a different light, like an AI Prime or something similar.

Im going to order the Prime this week.

I want to wait till i get the prime to glue down the corals just to make sure they like the spot.

I got mine through saltwateraquariums.com. They were great to deal with. I highly recommend them.

Got my tank for like $118.

Very good price! Are you using both chamber 1 & 2 inTank baskets, or just chamber 1? Just letting you know that the foam crap works better cut up and used in the top layer of the media basket for mechanical filtration. I have no idea why Flucal keeps putting that garbage in their tanks.

Im using both media baskets.

Chamber 1
Filter floss
Chemipure blue and phosguard
Biomax

Chamber 2
Nothing in slot 1
Pureagen
Filter floss

If you have any suggestions im open to them.

I would go with Seachem Matrix instead of the Biomax. Matrix is capable of denitrification due to its vast and small pore network. You'll get MUCH better biofiltration with that. Or you could use Marine Pure balls, which are basically the same thing, but bigger and more expensive. They both have much more surface area than Biomax.

You also may not need to use phosphate remover because you can do a large water changes on such a small tank.

I don't know if the Walt Smith rocks leech anything (if they're made of concrete), but would've suggested CaribSea Life Rock Shapes ($99 for a 20lb box). They're also man made, but not of concrete. They're made of an aragonite base material, like real rock, with spored bacteria and look very natural. But that train has already left the station ;). Did you research any issues with the Walt Smith rock first? I have no experience with it, but I know a few of the man made rocks have algae issues because of what they're made of. Some also have almost no internal pore network, which is critical.

But the Matrix should provide enough biofiltration. It's just you want the rock to buffer the Ph.

Actually, with this rock, it seems phosphates get out of control quickly. So a phosphate remover is probably a good idea.

Check the reviews HERE

I did research the walt smith rock and it was recommended by a few places.

I might put them marine pure balls on the bottom of chamber 2 not sure yet.
