This coral was sold to me as BGM a while back. I had questions when I got it but the seller said it was in fact BGM, and it was a small frag and is in a different system and so on. I is bigger now and I (as well as others that see it) still have doubts. What do you think it is?

I am thinking that it is the JC raspberry monster, here is the pic. He has both in his system.

Could very well be rasberry monster,or it could be bleached bgm,if your water parameters are fine and it is like this 2 months from now I would say it is rasberry mosnter.

I have to agree with above. The tissue is not showing any real similarities with the Tyree BGM. Now, there are several different BGM chalices (Tyree, Cornbread, etc). I am pretty sure this is not the Tyree BGM. Doesn't mean it won't turn out to be a really nice chalice, it's just not the Tyree.

I agree with all of you too, this is not "Tyree BGM", as it was sold to me.

This coral has been in my tank for almost 2 years, and has always looked the same. It has also been in a few different locations trying to get to to color like BGM. No luck.

The eyes of my chalice are smooth like the raspberry, no texture like the BGM and the feeders are clear like the pic of the raspberry too. The BGM has red feeders and mine definately arent.
I think the vendor should make this right.

I would not post the vendor name here but would definitely contact them and request the lineage of the piece.

Yea the body should have the green dot by now. It's pretty cheap now so I think the vendor may have just mistaken it. Shoot them a courtesy pm first before going public. Goodluck

Could it possibly be emerald mummy eye? I dont personally own one but doesnt it have pink eyes with a blue/silver body?

Yes I have been in contact with the vendor a few times,a few months apart, no luck, keeps saying it is Tyree BGM.
They are a sponsor on here too.
I may have to resort to revealing the name of the vendor, hopefully it wont come down to that, but I have my doubts.

Have you fragged this one up since you've had it? BGM is typically a very fast grower, so I would say it should be much bigger than that by now if you haven't cut it up.

However, I am curious as to why it has taken 2 years to say something about it? It looks like it may be bleached, is that a possibility?

I did sold the frag to Losthere. I sold many frags of the BGM to many folks. This is the first time I have this kind of problem. The piece looks like a bleach out BGM. It doesn't look like JCRM. Been along time since I sold the BGM frag to Losthere. 2 years maybe? I believe I got the JCRM after I sold the BGM frag to Losthere so I don't think I could possibly mixed up the frag. Plus there wasn't enough JCRM monster to frag and made the error even if I was to have the frag at the time I sold the BGM to Lothere. BTW, if this frag is JCRM, then it would be a better deal for Losthere.
Any any rate, I did offered to replace another frag for Losthere. Initially he agree but he later changed his mind.
Sorry folks. I tried to keep the dramma off the forum by trying to work with Losthere since I think it's a headache to have this kind of drama. Plus it isn't my cup of tea and a waste of time. I guess sometimes it can't be avoided when one is a vendor. Now I gues I have to roll with the punch. :)
Losthere had threaten to make this problem public. He got his wish. I hope he is satisfy now. :)
Losthere claimed to contacted me but I ddin't respond to him isn't true. I responded to every pm he sent me.
Earlier today I couldn't use the pm service since I let my Rit Aquatics sponsorship expired since I'm in a process to switching over my sponsorship to Atlanta Aquarium.

A friend of mine got a Tyree BGM a couple of years ago and it came in almost white. For the longest time, we didn't think it was anything close to a Tyree BGM. After about a year, it started to get the texture and it turned out to actually be the piece. I would be careful about bringing up the sponsor's name publicly unless you have exhausted every other option (and you are 100 percent; positive that this is NOT the piece). You may want to give it a bit more time to see if the tissue texture develops. Not telling you what to do, just saying that most of these issues can be handled behind closed doors and not in public.

I think there is some bleached tissue on the frag and until it fully colors up, may not resemble the BGM. It looks similar to my Tyree BGM when I first got it and had it under too much light too quickly... Just my opinion...

2 years and its still an issue? With that time frame I would have to say that the transaction was complete long ago. Maybe this thread would have made more since if it were posted about 700 days ago.....

Samething happened to someone I know in nc,it looked like nothing close to tyree bubble gum bleached, but colored up later.

Yeah 2yrs is a little long.... How would he or we or anyone but you know the truth??? That could be any frag and like mentioned 2yrs that should be a nice colony by now...:( maybe something is wrong with your tank causing the poor color and slow growth.... Dunno and good luck with that I don't see this going anywhere now times up lol...

Hey i feel for you, and even understand taking so long. I understand how and why the seller would say wait a few months(multiple times) and before you know it then a long time has passed. I do think it best to let it go at this point though. Worst case it would seem to me an honest mistake and you ended up with nice chalice even if not what you wanted. The best or more likely case in my opinion is it just does not look the same in your tank wether it be lights or parameters, etc. Sounds like he did try to work with you and even offered a switch.

If the sight of the coral is a daily reminder of what happened though i can send my address and take it off your hands.

I have bout MANY MANY MANY MANY things from Rit. He is a stand up guy and knows hs corals like the back of his hand. I also know Rit will fix any issue that he is involved in. Rit has taken care of me for almost 2 years now in the reefing hobby. I am sure if anyone would solve this issue he would.

Try raising your alk to 11. Don't let it drop below 9 for at least a month. If your lighting is right, it should color up better for u.
