My female clown was doing this after I had a sudden ammonia spike. (Was using API, so as far as I knew, ammonia was 0) She’d fall onto her side, breathing rapidly, then try to swim a bit and fall back over.. I thought she was toast. I did a 25% water change and added Prime; by morning she was back to normal. He survived the night but is still doing the heavy breathing and kind of perches on a rock

Just to clarify- a 20% water change on a tank that has a 0.50 ammonia level is only going to take it down to 0.40, still in the danger zone. Then, the ammonia level is still likely climbing, negating even that benefit. I’ve seen tanks with no biofilter that had increasing ammonia levels despite 50% daily water changes!Done WC 20%
btw anyone have any suggestions as to what caused this?
Thanks again.
That’s why I suggested you test your test kit, as something is off here. You haven’t been dosing with peroxide have you?Ummm our tank is 11 months old
Also we have established live rock and matrix in the back
